THE OUTSIDERS Opening Night Critics’ Reviews May 6
2024, 11:25:01 AM
I don’t mind telling you I loathe children but it was so inspiring to see an audience full of mature, young people absolutely transfixed in the theater. Equally refreshing at a time when critics seem to only be singling out shows that preach politics, gender, race in your face, to see a show like The Outsiders accomplish that by simply telling a great story. Definitely my pick for Best Musical and Brody Grant for Best Actor. I wasn’t expecting that — wishing it a good l

THE WHO’S TOMMY Broadway Previews Mar 16
2024, 10:11:29 AM
I saw Friday’s preview and visually the show is in great shape. The music & sound is perfect. If anything I thought it should be louder but it builds throughout the first act as it should.
Every scene with Ali Louis Bourguiz is a revelation however narratively the show is all over the place and incomprehensible at times. If you don’t know the material then Tommy’s transformation into an adult and the entire Sally Simpson story could be lost on you

THE WHO’S TOMMY Broadway Previews Mar 10
2024, 12:09:49 PM
I’m not so sure this is traditional first preview sound problems. Broadway has had a hard time amplifying some rock shows especially when the band is involved. Granted this level of amplification is relatively new to Broadway houses however bands routinely go into smaller venues like Webster, Hammerstein & the Beacon and are not this painfully loud. Even if they are, the audience in the front of the house is usually high AF, head banging and full of adrenaline. They move a

THE WHO’S TOMMY Broadway Previews Mar 10

They did this during the previews of American Idiot too with plenty of walkouts. Liza Minnelli was seated in front of us and turned to her companion and said it’s hurting my ears and left. I don’t know if they ever lowered the volume but it was louder than at any large rock venue or metal concert. Metallica, Guns’Roses, p*rno, Rage, etc don’t amplify their shows that loud — a Broadway house shouldn’t be doing that. It’s not g

Broadway Cares ripped for directing funds to Gaza Feb 13

The charitable group that asks Broadway patrons to donate money toward members of the theater community has come under fire for re-channelling $400,000 to groups providing assistance in Gaza.

Lillias White Calling Out Deaf Audience Member For Using CC Device Oct 15
2022, 01:26:00 PM
The problem is cellphones in the theater. Clearly no one wanted to shame a disabled person. That thought never crossed anyone’s mind. They understandably misread an audience member using a captioning device with the ever growing number of obnoxious theater goers who can’t go 5 minutes without fiddling on their phones. Phones should be put away and never taken out in the theater. Period.
But producers seem to want to have it both ways and benefit from social media posts.

Why are tickets getting so expensive Sep 11
2022, 07:02:30 PM
Jujamcyn and others getting in bed with the ticket scalpers like Seat Geek has only exacerbated it.
Make no mistake about it, Seat Geek can produce a digital ticket that can not be resold — and can only be redeemed by the original purchaser.
But theater owners have to insist on it instead of joining in on gouging their audiences

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA Musical (Chicago Pre-Broadway) - News & Discussion Thread Aug 8
2022, 12:21:58 PM
How have they dealt with the race switch of the Anne Hawthaway character to a young black professional? I imagine having Miranda & Emily berate and browbeat her for being overweight and dressing poorly could come off as truly clueless — and an example of privilege

& JULIET teases Broadway transfer announcement? Jul 9
2022, 01:27:44 PM
In a normal year, I would have already bought 2 or more tickets front & center for & JULIET— as well as tickets for ALMOST FAMOUS & BEAUTIFUL NOISE. I’m sure these are going to be wonderful, light musicals that I’d love to see with a date or bring my family. But I can’t justify risking my health now that the mask mandate is gone and COVID on the rise. I suspect we’ll be back to masking again in the fall so will have to wait & see
