As an illustrator/graphic designer I can appreciate the work that went into the trailer. It was very nicely done. However, I've never been fond of the show's key art. I am still not understanding the title change as ALW and his team are taking a chance that if this show is not received well here in the States that the critics are going to have a field day with it. I know it's a short clip but it is a slap in the face that they chose not to give credit to the show's book writer, lyricist, choreographer and director.
Looks very clever, setting us up perhaps for a nice twist.
Also, I love how they’re taking advantage of the “I’m not your Cinderella, I’m your bad Cinderella” trend… it’s even quoted outside the theatre now, and Linedy took a picture next to it yesterday.
It's like they're setting up this show to flop badly!
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
So this is obviously going to be the next show that everybody here instinctively decides to hate and trash, no matter if they see it and like it, or even see it at all.
Personally, I don’t really care because I got no skin in this game but I actually enjoyed this one each time I’ve seen it and hope that people (whether they’re too prideful to admit it publicly because it’s cooler to hate) find things in it to enjoy, too. It’s nowhere near ALW’s best work but it’s also miles away from his worst.

Sweetie, just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Unless they have changed every single thing about this show, it's pure trash. ALW fan girls and boys will sustain it for awhile but, like, dag.
I’m so confused by the animosity for this show. I really dislike most of ALW’s work (though I do have a real soft spot for Evita), but I was delighted by this one I’m the West End. I think it’s much stronger than most of his scores, and I found the book a bit silly but utterly enjoyable. Ah, well. Different strokes, and all.

It's like a sea of Michael Riedels.

What sucks is it feels like cynicism for the sake of cynicism. I don’t care how good or bad shows are, they are shows for people to see that are employing a good number of artists on stage and backstage. Even down to the artists who created this delightfully animated trailer. Literally not even a couple of minutes worth of a commercial that probably took a lot of time, energy, and talent that people just make too harsh judgment calls on. I didn’t mean for this to get so deep, but y’all wonder why shows close and aren’t successful, it’s because everybody tries to be loud with their opinions and then everybody tries to be loud on top of those in reply. And I say that with my own comment being an example. Thrilled that so many artists and talented people will get to be in a room to create. that’s what they want and need in their lives, and I’ll be happy to buy my ticket to this show to support them.

OUCH"
Is he famous enough that a mention of his name might sell tickets?
Is Emerald Fennell?
"
Her name definitely will sell a few more tickets than David Zippel.

I bought a ticket the day they went on sale, and I'll form my opinion of the show on the day I'm in my seat watching it. As is the case with any production, the commentary of people who haven't seen it means less than nothing to me.
Also, for what it's worth, I went through every review listed on Playbill's wrap up, and there's not a single pan there, with nothing less than 3 out of 5 stars. Some are mixed, some are positive (including the NYT), but none of them suggest the dumpster fire that a lot of people (who haven't seen it) are claiming.

It's two miles away, max, from Love Never Dies. That's about it. His work on this show isn't bad, but his collaborators?? Especially his (as always) mediocre director. I feel Emeral was harnessed by ALW's control issues, as she's a much better writer than this. Hopefully it's been improved since I saw it, but the entire plot needs a reworking.

I completely agree. I was in London for a very short time attending a wedding and had one afternoon free. I chose this because I think the music in Phantom is masterful, so I wanted to give this a try. None of it worked for me and I felt pissed off wasting my time. That's on me of course. Yeah, the entire thing needs reworking. If they do that, it might have a chance. But, if this is just a cash grab, he should probably understand that people are a lot more selective with their money post pandemic and don't accept total crap.
