Gavin's voice also lit up the Shubert the moment he sang "Out there!" at the beginning of Put On Your Sunday Clothes, but recordings actually do capture him beautifully.

How Should I Watch ANGELS IN AMERICA?

I saw the original production before it moved to Broadway (with a couple of cast changes).  At the time it was one play in two parts.  Opening the two of them in separate seasons was one of the craftiest ploys in Tony (if not all award) history.

I saw that production in one day, a thrilling experience.  Only you know your tolerance for sitting in a theatre, but I'd recommend doing this.  Let me add that in seeing both the Signature revival and the Garfiel

Broadway’s “Dead Outlaw” and “Floyd Collins” spin contrasting takes on the meaning of life (and cadavers).

I love this!  I said in another post that these two shows were the yin to each other's yang.  They are.

I had such a good time at this show last week that I'm surprised to read so many negative reactions to it on this board.  I laughed throughout, I loved its score and I don't think its cast could have been stronger.  To each his own, of course.

I'm curious now as to whether or not last season's off-Broadway critical darling will be a bust this season on Broadway.  I hope not.

In some ways it strikes me as the good-natured antithesis of Flo

Not applicable.  It was a box office hit and had been a critical one as well in an earlier production that starred Patricia Clarkson.

I'm surprised, this seems like a show that would appeal to you.  Were you unhappy with an earlier production?

Absolutely.  I can't believe anyone would state that the success of the show was carrying him "along for the ride."

Francis in Sunset is also working 3 times as hard with a bigger payoff than Criss. For us it's a Jordan vs Francis contest. The roles are just more difficult and executed much better."

They're all very good in different ways.  I haven't seen Jordan, but I don't doubt the quality of his work.

Patrick Adiarte, wonderful dancer of stage & screen 'Flower Drum Song,' dies at 81

Patrick was an incredible dancer, but his character singing about "dreaming in my maiden form bra" is one of musical theater's oddest moments.

Jonathan Cohen, you articulate why this ambitious piece remains a frustrating one for so many.  The effort to dramatize both Floyd's predicament and the circus surrounding it is admirable, but he himself can seem a bit short-changed as a result, at the cost of our emotional involvement.

I recently read someone describe it as a promising musical that needs more work.  It's too late for that, of course, but I thought that they were addressing the same issue.

Of the three I've seen (Glengarry Glen Ross, Eureka Day and Yellow Face), and I liked them all, I would go with Yellow Face.

Even without having seen it and despite the fact that several posters have expressed reasonable issues with the production, I'd be shocked if Floyd Collins wasn't one of the nominees.

It's always been more of a critics, or a theatre snob's, darling than a hit with the public.

I liked the one production I've seen (at NYU a while back), but the story is told much more effectively in Billy Wilder'

The boxes can be terrible in that theatre, depending on how the show is staged.  You won't see ANYTHING on the sides.
