Lincoln Center Theater to Revive RAGTIME at the Vivian Beaumont, Fall 2025 May 7

This is a roundabout way of answering your question. Back in 1988, Lincoln Center Theater did a production of Waiting for Godot with Robin Williams and Steve Martin, directed by Mike Nichols. It was at the Newhouse, and it had a limited run (about two months).

I tried to call and ask, but was on hold too long and gave up. Thanks!"

IOBDB changes Apr 13

I don’t know what happened, but it isn’t just you, there are at least two of us who don’t like the new site. I don’t know if it’s just a question of finding any change difficult to adjust to, or if it really is as user-unfriendly as it seems to be.
The new site seems to include currently running and upcoming Broadway productions, but not past Broadway productions. The old IOBDB didn’t include BAM productions, but I noticed the new site lists the rece

London Trip March 2025 Feb 8

I’ll be there in March, too. In addition to everything on your list, I’m considering Punch (at the Young Vic), Retrograde (a transfer from the Kiln to the West End), and Backstroke (at the Donmar — no tickets currently available, but some may become available later). Churchill in Moscow (at the Orange Tree) is on through March 8, which is before my trip, but might work for your dates.

Mescal to bring Frecknall-helmed STREETCAR to Broadway? Dec 5
2024, 04:54:07 PM
There are currently more than 3000 people ahead of me, and I figure that, at the rate the queue is moving, I’ll probably reach the front sometime in the middle of tonight’s performance of Eureka Day (which I’m going to), and I’ll lose my place and have to start all over again tomorrow.
No offense to anyone who is frustrated by how slowly the queue is moving, but I almost wish it would move so slowly I don’t reach the front until I get home after tonight&ls

Cate Blanchett to star in THE SEAGULL at the Barbican Theatre in London Oct 9

I had a ticket to that production at BAM, woke up sick the day of the performance, and decided to lie down a bit before leaving to attend the show. I ended up waking up about an hour into the performance, at home, and have never forgiven myself for missing that one. That pr

This takes the fun out of the "socialness" of the site.” Two more “anti-social” changes I just noticed: They have taken away the ability to click on a reviewer’s name if you read a review you like (or dislike) and want to see all the other reviews that person has written. And when I look at reviews I have written, I can still see how many “helpful” votes a review got, but I can no longer see who gave the “helpful”

THE HILLS OF CALIFORNIA by Jez Butterworth to open at the Broadhurst this fall Aug 5
2024, 03:14:54 PM
I’ll answer my own question. Today I got email from MTC announcing that they have added The Hills of California to this season’s schedule. The email said to call or email if you have already bought a ticket, so I called the subscriber services line to ask what they’re going to do for me. I was told they will refund a proportionate part of the cost of my subscription, which comes to $113. When I said, “So I’m screwed because I have already spent $215 on a ticket?”, the guy laughed and said he had

THE HILLS OF CALIFORNIA by Jez Butterworth to open at the Broadhurst this fall Aug 3

I’m an MTC subscriber and had already bought a ticket to The Hills of California (and I’m sure many other MTC subscribers have also done so). I haven’t had any notification from MTC about this yet, but I hope they’re planning to do something to compensate subscribers who end up with two tickets to the show.

Metcalf stars in Hunter’s LITTLE BEAR RIDGE ROAD at Steppenwoolf, directed by Mantello Jul 19

Charles Isherwood gives the play a very favorable review in today’s Wall Street Journal. I can’t post a link because I only have the print edition, but Isherwood calls the play “one of his [Samuel D. Hunter] finest”, and raves about the performances by Laurie Metcalf (“Ms. Metcalf, as always, gives a performance of layered textures and rock-steady truthfulness”) and Micah Stock (whom he calls “terrific”).

Quick London Question: Player Kings (Ian McKellen) or London Tide Mar 30

“Short story”? The National Theatre’s website says London Tide is based on Our Mutual Friend. That’s a full-length novel (my copy is more than 800 pages long).

Peter Morgan's PATRIOTS heading to Broadway? Jan 16
2024, 11:23:36 AM
Will Keen, who played Putin in the London production of Patriots, will be Iago in a production of Othello in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s just announced 2024/2025 season (no specific dates yet, just that it will be sometime in the October 2024-March 2025 season). That unfortunately makes it look like he might not be available to do Patriots on Broadway.

Michael Gambon on stage Sep 28

I saw him in what I think were his only two stage appearances in New York: Skylight on Broadway in 1996 and All That Fall (Beckett), with Eileen Atkins, at 59E59 in 2013. Also saw him in The Unexpected Man (Yasmina Reza), also with Eileen Atkins, in London in 1998. (Alan Bates and Eileen Atkins were the cast when The Unexpected Man played at the Promenade off-Broadway in 2000; I’m still kicking myself for having missed that.)

There’s a rave review from Charles Isherwood in today’s Wall Street Journal. It’s behind a paywall, but this will give you an idea: “Ms. Booth’s writing has a clarity, simplicity and bloom that are increasingly rare in contemporary plays … thanks to the humanity that suffuses the entire production, there isn’t a trace of the artifice that could tip the play into saccharine territory. It’s a moving story, clearly and effectively told, only
