Lincoln Center Theater to Revive RAGTIME at the Vivian Beaumont, Fall 2025

And it seems to finally be set.
Get your Tony speeches ready Joshua and Brandon. I didn’t love everything about the NYCC production but they were terrific.

Again, full orchestrations and production value, not another concert staging. LCT is betting big here.
Full Encores cast is set to transfer, though it should also be noted that Joy Woods — who was originally announced to play Sarah — will be free by the time this starts rehearsals.

I wouldn't mind if Levy got replaced.

Agree 100% - she is totally wrong for the role.

And there were 95 years to go, wheeeee!

Is Ragtime one of those shows, like Follies, that is loved and revived but simply doesn't turn a profit due to expense?

I wonder if Betsy Wolfe is banging on some doors this morning.

How do you know Joy Woods will be free? I thought all 4 leads signed a one year contract.

Busy late summer for Shaina Taub, who’ll be doing this as SUFFS prepares to launch its tour and DEVIL WEARS PRADA more than likely gears up for Broadway.

I haven't seen Ragtime since the 1998 Chicago sit-down production. Would love to see a lush/large revival in a space like the Beaumont!

LOL
Re: Ragtime; I hope this can sustain a run through the tony awards. Beginning in the fall kind of worries me it won’t be able to or LCT has different programming set for the spring.

I definitely think that is a big part of the equation, especially in the original productions.. I also suspect that it is just too 'intelligent', as was Follies (and a lot more of Sondheim) to attract huge audiences for extended periods of time, which is probably the only way for a full-scale Follies to break even.

I still feel awkward and scarred that the last revival, which was all the rave on this forum at the time trust me, was a massive, massive immediate and unrecoverable disaster in 2010. It will certainly be interesting to see if this means nothing anymore. Feels like LCT is the right place to try again.

I have loved all three of these productions and loved them all.
To see it at the VB? Stunning. Cannot wait to catch it again. My guess is the only way Levy doesn't stay with it is if N2N comes over.

Levy is doing both this and LOST BOYS. NEXT TO NORMAL isn't coming over, their plan B was the PBS proshot.

The benefit of reviving this at LCT is that it doesn’t rely as much on commercial viability. If it is somehow a financial smash, they can always extend and milk some additional money out of it. But it can also close at a loss - as most subscription house productions do - and it doesn’t have to be viewed as a failure in the same way the 2009 revival was.

From the article:
"Previews are scheduled to begin September 25 ahead of an Oct. 16 opening, people familiar with the production said."
Never seen or listened to this show? What's the best recording?

The OBC. Wow you’re in for a treat Audra, Marin and Brian have recorded some iconic sounds. It’s a treasure of gold. You could listen to ‘back to before’ first immediately.

When tickets go on sale, would you do this as part of a 2 show day? Or would you give it its own day?
Looking at a Saturday matinee at the Met, and thinking maybe convenient to stay around Lincoln Center?

I’d personally be completely exhausted (in a bad way, not an artistically fulfilling way) by an opera followed by a 3+ hour musical about racism and antisemitism at the turn of the century, regardless of how close the buildings are to each other. I would need a heavy nap in between.
