Theaterboard has rumors it’s getting a brief staging in the UK (partially due to a job posting).
From Deadline -
“Sources said that they found a sweet spot for the busy actor to re-team with Scott, and that is why they’ve set this as their next collaboration, with the aim to shoot next spring after Mescal stars on Broadway in A Streetcar Named Desire. Mescal is reprising his turn as Stanley Kowalski from the lauded London production of the Tennessee Williams play.”
I don't doubt that the production will be met with similar puzzlement on Broadway as Cabaret but I thought Mescal's performance was absolutely terrifying and felt like it came from a very dark place. I wouldn't say I would like to see it again, but I think it has to be seen.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Ok, I really can't afford to come to the city every month since it pretty much requires a night or two. That's even with me having little interest in a decent number of shows.
But this? THIS? and with Paul Mescal? Be still my beating heart and empty bank account. I will (likely) be willing to spend more than I usually am, because I just swoon over this man's talent. Binau's comment only makes this incredibly high priority for me.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

iirc filming Gladiator 2 was scheduled around his stage commitments. Factor in reshoots, various press functions, awards ceremonies, other movies, his mother's illness...
While I didn't love everything about the production in London, Mescal terrified me and gave a performance that I think about a lot. So excited if this actually materializes.
I’m having PTSD flashbacks of missing out on tickets to see Cate Blanchett’s Streetcar at BAM because I trusted a friend to get them and they forgot. (They are no longer a friend for separate reasons, but the signs were there.) I will not miss the chance this time.
Was just going to say I think we should start a petition to have Cate skip her London run of the Seagull and return to BAM for an encore. It’s not histrionic to say her Blanche was the stuff of legends.

I saw her do it in Washington. It was one of the greatest stage performances I have seen, so I concur wholeheartedly with your assessment.
Patsy Ferran was his Blanche??? Isn't she like 15 years too young to play Blanche (plus she looks much younger than her age)? She seems like more of a Stella.
Also, making Stanley the "star role" in your production of Streetcar is anti-homosexual, sorry. I've never once been excited about a production of Streetcar because of the actor playing Stanley. I don’t care how big and juicy his himbo thighs are. I'm there for the GIRLS.

Patsy is great but Lord was she all kinds of wrong for Blanche. And yes, i just remember thinking she should have been Stella, the whole time.

She stepped in days before the show open when the woman originally cast, Lydia Wilson, withdrew for health reasons.

Let's see if Broadway can appreciate Frecknall's style this time around."
Agreed, their performances (particularly that of Anjana Vasan as Stella overshadowed his). I'm not sure how NYC would react to this production, though. I wasn't entirely sold by it, although the London critics were. I can't remember what it was now, but I remember there were some cuts to the text (particularly in the final scene) that annoyed me.
