A BEAUTIFUL NOISE: THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL - P/reviews & News Thread Feb 5
2025, 08:11:06 AM
Caught the tour in Orlando last night after having seen the show pre-Broadway in Boston. Overall, I thought it was a GREAT tour of an otherwise just decent show. Missing the costume change bit in the opening was very noticeable as someone who had seen the show before - not saying it bodes well when that’s the most exciting part of the beginning of a show, but it got me into a theatrical headspace that the show now takes a bit longer to drag you into.

THE LOST BOYS to open at the Palace on Broadway in 2026 Jan 28

I was rolling my eyes until I saw Arden’s name attached. I’ll give it a try - he hasn’t disappointed me yet. But this did get an eye roll from me upon first glance - I’m still hesitant, but I’ll give it a try.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON Heading to Broadway Next Season? Jan 21

EDSOSLO858 said: "I don't think anythingis too Britishfor Broadway or too American for the UK. If ashow has incredible buzz and WOM around it, asthis one sure does, then a transatlantic transfer is all but justified."
From a sensitivity perspective, sure. But Everybody’s Talking About Jamie surely would have had a Broadway run if this were true. Jamie was, in fact, a bit too British for a Broadway audience, but it had a nice LA run. There’s nothi

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON Heading to Broadway Next Season? Jan 20
2025, 11:03:23 AM
I saw this show a few nights ago on a short trip to London. I don’t share the same enthusiasm that it should transfer to Broadway, much less that it’d be a commercial success.
I will admit that my own ignorance likely plays into this. As an American, the telling of this story through a gritty, New Orleans lens was much more familiar than telling it through the folksy setting of a Cornwall fishing village. As an oversimplification, the style of st

When understudies SHOULD have gone on Jan 15
2025, 09:14:32 AM
Over 15 years ago, I won the Wicked lottery and Nicole Parker was struggling with the vocals. The Wizard and I was mutually uncomfortable (especially from front row center) and I saw her whisper something to Nessa during the first classroom scene. Next entrance (or so), Jennifer DiNoia came out fully costumed and was announced at intermission.
I commend Nicole for making the decision when she did, even if it meant one tough song. Having seen her since, she’

Next LITTLE SHOP Cast? Jan 14
2025, 08:49:56 AM
Milo and Liz would be the most exciting casting I’ve seen in this production, inclusive of the original cast.
I happened upon Milo in the Disney Channel musical movie Zombieland. I’ve been disappointed by most DC musical movies (including HSM), but Zombieland was surprisingly charming, had eye-catching art direction, and told a relevant story from a parallel perspective - give it a try. I then opted to catch him in American Idiot in LA and, as others have sug

Cabaret Saturday Night January 11th Jan 12

The article by Grey is very haunting. I was set to revisit the Kit Kat Club last week after seeing the original cast in London, but the turn of events over the last few months have left me sick to my stomach even thinking about it. Grey’s reference to people who are resigned to irony out of exhaustion and political overwhelm is very much what I’m also feeling - sheer defeat and difficulty accepting “other opinions” when it comes to the value of another human being.&nbs

Your Personal Top 10 of 2024 Dec 27
2024, 07:30:45 PM
I’m sticking to top five and Broadway - lots of fantastic stuff off-Broadway this year, too. No particular reason, just the shows that left an impact on me.
1.) Oh, Mary!
2.) Death Becomes Her
3.) Merrily
4.) Maybe Happy Ending
5.) Suffs
Special shoutout to Lempicka for being an exhilarating evening of theatre - I’m shocked it wasn’t received better.

TodayTix Pricing Dec 23
2024, 07:59:08 AM
I actually quite enjoy using TodayTix, but I agree that the pricing is usually the same as what’s reflected on Telecharge/SeatGeek - sometimes even a dollar or two more.
I have reached status as a “gold member” - I’ve achieved it by buying tickets at least 12 times on their service. As such, I receive an additional 10% discount, accrue ticket credit, and get occasional surprise upgrades to a higher seating tier. For only $1/ticket, I can also canc

Kevin's Minnesota Theatre Adventures - TUESDAYS WITH MORRIS and MISERY Dec 23
2024, 07:22:39 AM
As a native Minnesotan that’s unfortunately been relocated to Florida (although Los Angeles is on the horizon!), I really appreciate your reviews of theatre in the area. Many people aren’t even sure where MN is, let alone the wonderful theatre community it has. The Twin Cities are a well-kept not-so-secret theatre haven. Seeing Christmas Carol on the 26th with my husband (a Texan’s first time) and we’re really looking forward to it.

Audra's performance schedule during holidays Dec 22
2024, 08:27:14 AM
I doubt any performer with their name above the title would have a planned absence until the busy holiday weeks have concluded (January 5th, this year). To avoid refunding tickets/losing money, Audra’s planned absences would be listed on Telecharge at time of purchase so patrons know in advance that she will not be in.
Of course, she could always be out unintentionally if sick or injured. But I’d put my money on Audra being in on the performance you’re inqu

3 days. 5 shows. Dec 20

Sounds like a blast! And your enthusiasm for theatre is both exciting and refreshing.
I, too, was left speechless by Outsiders in the wrong way. My husband and I were the only ones of our theatre-loving friend group that felt that way - although, the same friends also loved Bad Cinderella.

Shubert will renovate & expand the Imperial Theatre Dec 20
2024, 07:35:15 PM
I’ve only had to endure this venue twice, and both were not for validating reasons. The traffic and crowds getting in and out are a nightmare, and the legroom from every seat I’ve been in has been absolutely dismal - especially in the side orchestra.
I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with the renovations. I think it will bring better traffic control inside the venue, but I didn’t see anything regarding changes to the seating area aside from re

MAYBE HAPPY ENDING Reviews Dec 19

I'll make it redundant, because I know it's been said: sitting center for this show will be to your benefit.
I am a fan of sitting in strange/partial view seats because, oftentimes, you're not missing much, you save a few bucks, and you get closer to the actors. This show, as people have stated, is played very much center and even the inner aisle seats of the front row orchestra provide a very restricted view. ESPECIALLY because the set looks like it would be best appreciat

La Cage aux Folles at Pasadena Playhouse Dec 17
2024, 08:23:46 PM
The last poster summed it up perfectly. It was a disappointing evening and, as someone who has only seen The Birdcage and isn't familiar with La Cage, it was rather confusing.
I loved The Birdcage, but have only seen it once and don't remember all of the details. This made it incredibly confusing to understand the transition from the lovable personalities of the film to the pretentious and unenthused personalities in this production. A misfire in many ways. I very much enjoyed

MAYBE HAPPY ENDING Reviews Dec 17

I saw this show this past weekend and was really touched by it - moved, even. It's a sweet story that is easy enough to watch, simple enough to find a way to relate to, and clips along at a great pace.

DEATH BECOMES HER comments/questions Dec 14
2024, 09:11:45 AM
I saw the show last night - LOVED IT.
The sets used every square inch of the Lunt-Fontanne’s massive proscenium, the practical effects were hysterical, and the story is very fun. The music and lyrics easily and effectively drive the story forward while never feeling cumbersome, although no songs are particularly memorable either.
The lead roles are well-written for this show to also have a good life after Broadway, too: a featured diva role for publicity (who d

Shows with irregular afternoon starts Dec 14
2024, 08:48:53 AM
Big Gay Jamboree (closing Sunday) and Titanique have 5pm Saturday as well as a Sunday evening show.
If you haven’t seen Titanique yet, I’d HIGHLY recommend it if you enjoy a fast-paced, campy romp with incredible vocalists singing Celine. Both shows are from the same/similar creative team, though.
