re: FROST/NIXON Reviews  Apr 24 2007, 02:58:59 AM
Margo,

I loved this show.

I sat through all three of Tom Stoppard's plays this season.

I went to see "Blackbird," in previews. I adored it.

I saw "Rock and Roll" in London. Which I loved.

However, I think Frost/Nixon is the play of the season.

As you know, I'm not a Tony voter. But I did see all of these plays.

And Frost/Nixon? Killed me. I'm just saying.

"One would think they haven't overlooked that factor. I never watched the credits, but has it ever said who did what?

The problem with Grease is that the choreography is too well known (the entire movie is too well known). If they're indeed going the way of the movie for this revival, I'm sure some aspects will be similar....and that they'll gieve Birch credit for whatever is used.

That said, I certainly wold expect thatthe show's choreography is better than what was on T

YES.

Buckley LIVE is amazing.

Go.

WOT, that's what makes theatre great.

You liked this show.

I did not. However, I did myself a disservice. I didn't say why I disliked this show.
So here it is.

I felt like it was Joan Didion masturbating on stage.

All of the references. Prada. Doctor's Hospital. Whatnot.

Vanessa opens the show TELLING the audience that she knows better.

I've never lost a child. It must be a horrible thing.

HOWEVER. It's

"You're basing your judgements on a 3 minute clip from the TV show.

See the show first, then allege plagarism."

Actually, I'm basing this on hours and hours of that TV show.

The problem is, K. Marshall had an assistant. So noone knows who did what.

However. Somebody stole Patty Birch's choreo.

Listen.

I don't know Patty Birch. I've never met her.

But that stuff on the TV was HER stuff.

And if I was her? I'd be PISSED. <

re: The Rest of the GREASE Cast  Mar 27 2007, 09:15:53 AM
I'm stunned.

Kathleen Marshall is a THIEF.

She has stolen from Patty Birch hook, line, and sinker.

Does nobody else get this?

re: Curtains Reviews  Mar 27 2007, 09:12:59 AM
I just read the "New York" and the "New Yorker" reviews.

I sort of agree with both of them.

They both made points.

However, John Lahr's review was the better of the two, from a writer's standpoint.

He's a critic that can WRITE.

Never mind.
re: Could anybody who sees Year of Magical Thinking please post...  Mar 27 2007, 08:59:08 AM
Oh, there are theatrics. There are these drops behind her that keep falling down.

Which still doesn't make it a play.

I LOVE Vanessa Redgrave. I like and respect both David Hare and Joan Didion.

But this play is crap.

re: Year of Magical Thinking Availability?  Mar 27 2007, 08:53:31 AM
Skip it.

I went into this show with such high hopes, being a huge V.R. and Joan Didion fan.

But this show stinks.

Honestly.

re: Grey Gardens and Spring Awakening logos  Mar 27 2007, 08:51:02 AM
I'm not a "Grey Gardens" fan.

But that ad campaign is GENIUS. The photo with her and the hat? STUNNING.

I don't know who did it, but kudos to them.

re: The Rest of the GREASE Cast  Mar 27 2007, 08:48:47 AM
I'm just curious.

Where is this show playing? They don't have a theatre yet!

And they've sold a gazillion dollars worth of tickets.

I suspect that the "Pirate Queen" theatre (Ford Center, or whatever it's called these days) will be free. But maybe not.

So how are they selling tickets? Not by seats, obviously. But has anyone here bought one? Info, please. I'm dying of curiosity.

re: Curtains Reviews  Mar 23 2007, 11:14:41 AM
"The fact is, this show would've been fresher five years ago."

I don't think so. This show would have been fresher forty-five years ago.

That said, I enjoyed it. And I think is displays more craft than either "Spring Awakening" or "Grey Gardens."

re: Curtains Reviews  Mar 23 2007, 10:16:51 AM
Pretty much what I expected.

I liked "Curtains," a lot. But it has problems. A murder-mystery-musical has never been successful, largely because it's very hard to musically delineate characters while at the same time keeping them murky for purposes of the plot. (See "Something's Afoot.")

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this show. It occasionally works like gangbusters.

I hope people give it a chance.

Hey, I know this is a long shot...

But Jackie Arrington, if you are reading this, PM me.

re: CURTAINS - Opening Night!  Mar 12 2007, 04:29:25 PM
It's a fun show.

And Opening Night is always cool.

Enjoy!!!

re: Patricia Birch....'  Mar 12 2007, 01:58:09 PM
Good response.

Honestly, I'm not "hating" on Kathleen.

I just think that Kathleen is thieving, in this case.

I'm not denying Kathleen's talent.

I'm just saying that Patty Birch deserves the credit for the work she did.

re: Patricia Birch....'  Mar 12 2007, 01:14:19 PM
"After that mess Patricia Birch did with GREASE 2, we're ALL entitled to steal anything from her. Even Kathleen!"

Whatever.

I'm not judging Patty Birch's choreography.

That is not the point.

The point is that Kathleen Marshall is a thief.

Period.

re: Patricia Birch...."  Mar 12 2007, 12:51:37 PM
"Can anyone think of the "Hand Jive" differently?"

No. And that's exactly my point.

Patty Birch created that choreography. Yes, it's iconic. But really, when you think about it, it's very basic. Marshall could have created something new. She didn't. She stole from Birch. She's a ho.

re: Curtains 3/10 Evening: A Mini-Review  Mar 12 2007, 12:05:05 PM
I totally agree with this thread.

"Curtains" isn't terrific.

But it is entertaining.

I had a great time. And frankly, given this season, that was a LOT.
