It's one of my favorite musicals of their's, and I just realized they it has never had a real Broadway run, plus, there isn't any up to date cast recording availiable either. If it did come to Broadway or if it was at least recorded, here's who I would want in the cast:
Cinderella: Kelli O'Hara
The Prince: Adam Jacobs
The Stepmother: Patti LuPone
Portia: Megan Hilty
Joy: Shannon Durig
Fairy Godmother: Kristin Chenoweth

Why does it seem like everyone is so immature here? I just asked a simple question, it's not like I'm one of the really annoying teenyboppers who's just asking for it.
There was a terrific production at the Papermill Playhouse in NJ a year or two ago. I don't know if a cast recording was made.
I believe it had an NY Opera or Philharmonic run with Eartha Kitt and Sarah Uriarte Berry a while ago.
It's one of my favorite musicals. I think it needs a good run, or at least a good cast recording.

Unfortunately, we are on the internet, and the anonymity makes people think that they can forget social skills, or perhaps they have no social skills and that's why they're on the internet in the first place.

I was in the chorus for this in High School. It's a lovely musical, but it's had book problems over the years, and my guess is that, after Wicked, it's not as spectacular a show and wouldn't get a long Broadway run, but you are right, if they're reviving all their shows, this should be done.
It did have a City Opera production some years ago, and the best recording is still that first one with Julie Andrews. Your casting choices are fun, but you need two really boisterous women as the stepsisters. I doubt Chenowith would want to play the Fairy Godmother. I think Angela Lansbury would be terrific in that role.
Keep thinking like this. Broadway World needs more thinkers like you!
It has lovely music but it is such a slight story that it probably couldn't support a full Broadway production. It was written for TV and has the small scale loveliness right for that medium. I'm told there is going to be a full production in China next year - but that's a heck of a commute to see it.
agreed. im not sure its meant for broadway.
but a studio recording would be nice.

the NYCOpera production was filled with stars...and it was GOD AWFUL imho.
I think the show needs a lot of work to work well, and I do not think it is meant for Broadway.
Skingdom out.
p.s. i thought the comment was funny.
It was written specifically for television, and telecast to the masses starring Julie Andrews...another version was telecast starring Leslie Ann Warren years later. Every child saw these yearly and for generations, and Broadway was not as fond of revivals as it seems to be these days.
It is also a fairly slight musical for broadway prices...which is why it is mostly done in smaller, off broadway and regional theaters for limited runs.
because it sucks
the asian tour in 2008 will have Lea Salonga
maybe it'll get a couple US dates
It's really better on a smaller stage. It's a charming little show, but like LSOH, I don't think a Broadway stage won't be the right fit.
BWW's own Hairspraydoll is directing a production of it at her Las Vegas high school in a month or two. If you're in that area you should pay her a visit.
Sorry, you've got a little mistake in your cast list.
JEN CODY as Joy!!!!
Brilliant!
I'm unfamiliar with the stage score, but I'd assume a studio recording would be pointless since it was remade into a TV musical in the late '90s starring Whitney Houston, Brandi, Bernadette Peters, et al. and a soundtrack was released from that film. I can only see a studio recording being made only IF this film hacked up the score.
The original Julie Andrews telecast is preserved on DVD, too.
There was never a cd recording released of the Houston/Brandy version. The record companies couldn't reconcile their differences on royalties.
I'd love to see Audra McDonald as the Fairy Godmother for something (like a concert or benefit production.)
it is actually one of the only r and h musicals i can stand. although many people hated the abc movie version i liked it.
The ABC version couldn't hold a candle to either of the earlier broadcasts. They also squeezed in an extra song for Brandy that didn't work in the context of the rest of the score.

Is it LVA, or another high school?

Ummm... there was no new song just for Brandy. There was "The Sweetest Sounds" wich opened the film with both Brandy and Paolo Montalban, but it wasn't just for Brandy.
There was "Falling in Love with Love" for Bernadette Peters and "There's Music in You" for Whitney Huston, but no additional solo song for the Cinderella character.
i loved that tv movie! But yeah, i would love to see this on broadway
