I don't know about official. Do they announce all musical workshops? It was really closed off. I mean people were listening in the door and only saw the cast when they left the room to roam the halls. But with that cast and writing/directing team I guess something is bound to leak out.

If the reactions around the studios is any indications, than definitely. As people were leaving auditions they could hear them in the hall. Idina's voice is very distinctive, so people stuck around for a bit.
It sounds like an interesting musical. It is rocky like N2N, but not as loud. But that could just be because the lead is Idina Menzel and not Alice "Batsh

So today during the Jersey Boys auditions at Pearl Studios there was a musical workshop presentation going on. From what I gathered it was the writing team of Next to Normal. Also directed by Michael Greif and some of the members of the cast I saw were Idina Menzel, Anthony Rapp, Celia Kennan-Bolger, Adam Kantor, and Kyle Dean Massey.
I only heard a few pieces, but it sounds very much like Next to Normal. Apparently they have been there all week rehearsing.

They haven't announced it yet, but it is pretty official. These are the actors currently in rehearsals. The cast as been the same since the Nov'09 workshops except for Idina, Christian, and BDJ who are the only cast changes I am aware of.

The production will run February 15 - March 27, 2011 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre at the La Jolla Playhouse.
Current Cast (so far): *but it could change*
Brian D'Arcy James, Idina Menzel, Christian Borle, Sally Wilfert, Dick Latessa, Carmen Ruby Floyd, Chauntee Schuler, Eliseo Roman, Georgi James, and Andrew Rannell.
Sherie Renee Scott and Craig Beiko were cast in the original workshop in BDJ and IM's roles.

I think it is a bit ridiculous that people have issues with Hollywood actors being on the Tonys. Are they also annoyed that the likes of Broadway stars like Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Jonathan Groff, Idina Menzel, and Kristin Chenoweth were all over Glee (a show practically made to cater to Broadway) last season?
Are they all never going to ever try to get a fulltime primetime gig or star in some huge ass movie? I think not. So whats the problem? They are actors just like them. It i

I was also there. I personally loved her banter between the songs. She just seems so down to earth. Even the orchestra seemed to get a kick out of her. She doesn't take herself seriously.
I liked the full sound of the symphony behind her. It made some of the sounds I didn't really care for sound amazing. This was a great idea for her. I am not surprised she is joining the cast. There has been way to much talk about her for them NOT to at least approach her. She is popular. The show is popular. Seems like a magical fit.

Sadly I am seeing it over many blogs people questioning Taye being the father. A little ridiculous. Clearly people haven't been around babies of color to understand how their skin pigmentation works.
Anyways, congrats to the couple. Walker looks precious, Idina looks content, and Taye looks to be on cloud nine.

Many African American newborns are born fairly light and dark up as they get older. I wouldn't be surprised if Walker did the same. Genetic are funny that way.
