London production of Guys & Dolls secured NYC location

Dec 6, 2023 — 10:37:48 PM

I think the OP has gotten slightly confused, the rumor for months is that the show will be mounted in the new hanger to be built on Pier 76 on 35th street. Or they’re just pulling our leg as a pier is technically “floating” I guess…

Body Mics for Original SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE?

Dec 3, 2020 — 12:22:16 AM

There is a soundboard recording of Mandy & Bernadette’s final performance, and the orchestra is isolated to the right ear and voices to the left. The voices are extremely clear so my thought is they definitely used body mics. I remember them saying in the PASSION director/cast audio over the PBS recording they DID use body mics but they were not miked for the filming.

74th Annual Tony Awards will go digital this fall

Aug 23, 2020 — 10:17:29 AM

I wonder how they will handle FREESTYLE LOVE SUPREME. I wouldn't be shocked to see it get in the musical category over THE LIGHTNING THIEF."FLS is ineligible for Tonys, no nominators or voters were invited to see the show. They went the route of selling those tickets instead of giving them out for free.

I don't think so. It was not a hit in any capacity and itfailed to recoup. People are very scared to criticize Slave Play which I find really interesting."Sutton, I think ...

How Do You Solve a Problem Like the Tonys

Aug 8, 2020 — 3:59:03 PM

There would absolutely be industry outcry if that happened, but there's unfortunately going to be industry outcry no matter what happens. There will be outcry from producers of shows that closed in the fall if shows still running from last fall are eligible. There will be outcry from producers of shows opening in 2022 if they have to compete against shows that opened in 2019 (and outcry from producers of shows that opened in 2019 if they have to compete against newer shows from 2022). I'm afr...

Sutton Ross said: "I know this is the incredibly unpopular opinion, but my feeling is that whenever Broadway returns, it's time to just start a new season as far as awards are concerned and that everything that opened May 2019-March 2020 is simply not eligible for the Tonys. It may not be as unpopular as you think, I completely agree. This year is a wash, it doesn't and shouldn't count."Imagine the (justified) industry outcry when Slave Play is deemed ineligible for any Tony Awards. This is on...

During one...

Larry Kramer Takes on Trump Jordan Roth & More

Apr 3, 2020 — 5:21:54 PM

Agree with you Kad. I am neither here nor there about Jordan's instagram presence, but I feel like his recent fashion posts all tagged in East Hampton are really tone deaf. As many in the theatre community get fired or placed on furlough, it seems really off. His social media management really needs to recalibrate, as I know many in the community are chatting about it.

Jun 27, 2019 — 9:50:11 AM

Not sure how we think that the Ivo WSS is too small for the Broadway, we literally know nothing about it. Its going to the Broadway unless another large Shubert theatre becomes available before. Rudin only produces in Shubert houses. COMPANY is still casting Bobbi so the schedule will all depend on who they cast and their availability. CAROLINE is in talks for Studio 54 as part of the Roundabout season. I've heard that CRAZY FOR YOU is circling the Sondheim but that was months ago.

Jun 27, 2019 — 12:52:02 AM

What I'm hearing:Neil Simon - Michael Jackson apparently still a thing and has first dibs on the theatre. Broadway - WSS is basically confirmed. Jacobs - A London transfer of a play to be announced this week. Haven't heard anything about the Lyceum or Longacre.

Tootsie controversy

Jun 12, 2019 — 11:11:20 AM

But actual trans people have seen the show and been offended by it and if you don’t want to listen to their concerns, you’re part of the problem. My best friend is a MTF woman and I saw the show with her, she had a good time. Should I not listen to her? She much preferred it compared to the regressive sexual politics of The Prom. I find it ironic with all the talk of Head Over Heels, Peppermint saw Tootsie and tweeted about how she enjoyed it. As others mentioned before, I am all ears to hear...

Tootsie controversy

Jun 11, 2019 — 2:24:33 PM

Most people I have seen on twitter and facebook have not seen the show (and openly admit it), but are just rehashing and reposting the American Theatre Article. It really bothers me how that article is taken as gospel and just being reposted agin and again, as there are trans people who disagree with it PLUS, as many mentioned before, it contains willful misinterpretations. The article is just a shortened version of what he wrote on out.com, which was even worse. When the author wrote that Mic...

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 2/25/18

Feb 26, 2018 — 6:06:47 PM

Don't worry, Hogan's just being his usual know it all self.Angels did fine for their first week of previews. They have a healthy advance and they should build as the weeks go on and they get into their usual performance schedule.

MEAN GIRLS to take the August Wilson

Sep 6, 2017 — 1:40:00 PM

Angels is being co-produced by Jordan's Roth/Jujamcyn but as has been reported here it's not going into a Jujamcyn house. Dreamgirls has ruled the Hudson out and ATG wants plays going in. They will most likely be taking the Al Hirschfeld.

Eliza? - My Fair Lady Revival 2018

Aug 19, 2017 — 10:12:46 PM

I can tell you it's officially not Hathaway and Firth. There was quite a struggle to MFL on Broadway for a long time due to legal troubles. Once the Lerner & Loewe estates were in order, about 5 or 6 producers jockeyed for position to get the rights last year. Part of the reason we've been hearing about Hathaway & Firth is because they both confirmed that they would only appear in MFL if Lincoln Center got the rights with Bart directing, which is a big reason why LC's production got approval....
