Worth sending to the US?
 Aug 11 2005, 07:12:48 AM
Heya, I'm from the UK and I'll be putting some signed (by all of the UK touring cast) Miss Saigon merchandise and photos up on e-bay next week. I was wondering if anyone thought it would be worth it to ship worldwide rather than only to the uk.
Does this kind of stuff interest you guys over here?
Thanks,
Hannah xx

Thank you hun... I'm 5'6 exactly :) Wohoo!

I was also wondering more about licensing and equity though. Am I allowed to perform professionally in the US at all?

Thanks for any help

re: Question for the posters in London...
 Jul 2 2005, 09:34:10 PM
i really wouldn't go and see The Far Pavillions - aka Les Maharaja.A cheeky name for it i know, it's just the plot is almost identical to les mis, but set in india with a few things changed around. They even have they're own version of castle on a cloud.
It's a shame though, the actors are really good, it's just the book, score and sadly, direction that lets it down.

I definately suggest billy elliot
Also try check out some fringe stuff - it is superior to a lot of the commercia

Hiya... it's been a long long time since i posted here, but here goes.

I just got in to a top school to do a musical theatre degree here in London(UK) and at some point after i really want to work on broadway. I know there's the theatre exchange program, but is that the only way i'll ever get to work over there?
Ever since i saw a video of the rockettes I've wanted to get up and dance at radio city - provided that in three years time i am good enough and sparkle at the audition, wou

I'm not so fussed about seeing another ALW film. I think they should just stick to filming the stage productions - even if they do what cats did and have the cameras rolling about the stage. At least you know you're gonna get REAL talent - so what if it doesn't have any mass appeal.

my two cents

Honk honk honk honk honk honk.....
 Feb 6 2005, 11:59:08 PM
Can anyone tell me if the song 'The Elegy' in honk is actually really long, repeating itself over and over...
Or is it just a fault with the radio?

I'm waiting for songs to be played, so i don't want to switch stations, but it just won't stop - i think it's gone around at least five times now.

I don't mean to be troublesome :P
I just wish this song would end.
xx

Wait it's at the end again, lets see...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Starlight Express - London West End
I'd forgotton about that, it was magical - I was 10

And... if i remember rightly, that prompted me to take up acting lessons and rollerblading, lol.

Thank you for this post - I've had a crummy day and i feel quite warm and happy now

re: Who are some of your favorite broadway characters?
 Feb 6 2005, 08:16:05 PM
Scaramouche - We Will Rock You
Rita - Lucky Stiff
Daisy Hilton - Side Show
Sally Bowles and Emcee - Cabaret
Witch, Baker, Baker's Wife, Little Red and the Wolf - Into the Woods

That pretty much sums it up for me, i'm sure there are more, but these come to mind first :)

adios

edit: ahhh, i totally missed out Lizzie from Baby - cus i really want to play her :)

re: Audition Song Thread

Does anyone have "I want to go to hollywood" sheet music? Or know where I could get it? I have been looking for it for ages.

->
Is it on The Mary Yeston Songbook cd? If so there is a score out for it. We have one at our college library - i know i copied the music to this song and think it was from that.
sorry i can't help more

re: What are your thoughts on young British star Ruthie Henshall???
 Feb 3 2005, 07:11:56 AM
ok, so i am biased, cus i am british...
but she is fantastic!

She did train as a dancer to begin with and trained laine theatre arts.

Not many GREAT tripple threats come from there - i mean they are all good, but dancers mostly.

Ok, this aint any kind of be-all or end-all, but this is just some of the advice we get given at college. It is from working professionals, so i buy it :)

You are essentially your own business and a product, so dress, act and choose your audition material accordingly.

Yes dress comfortabally, but don't walk in giving the impression that you don't care. Also dress according to the part you want to get. Now i don't mean go in gingham to an oklahoma audition, but if you ar

sweeny concept already done in trafalgar studios :)
 Feb 3 2005, 01:09:03 AM
THIS DOES WORK!
Ah! I saw this format in the Trafalgar Studio Theatre here in the uk. It was haunting and amazing!
The cast pretty much all came from rose bruford/guildhall/lamda etc and they were phenomenal to say the least. I’ve seen sweeny todd a few times, but never have I seen one quite as innovative and outstanding.
Check out the reviews for a better idea of what it was like.

Oh and Sam Kenyon (Tobias) is going to be a star!

re: The Audition Post (Songs and Monologues)

Heya also someone asked about doing The Story Goes On as an audition song.
Now i absoloutely LOVE that song, so if you are allowed to sing the full length, by all means, go ahead.
But, if you have to cut it, i would advise against it as this gets rid of the emotional journey which essentially is what the song is about.
Learn it and save it for a showcase I say :)

(feel free to ignore anything i say - at the end of the day it's up to you, know what i mean)

re: The Audition Post (Songs and Monologues)

i read a question earlier (this may not be relevant anymore), it was about playing ages in songs/monologues for auditions.

Basically if you are auditioning for a Drama College, they want to see who you can play NOW. Not who you would be really good at playing in thirty or so years cus you were good at it in high school.
What use is that when you finish and want work?
You will never get a 54 (or 34 for that matter)year olds part at only 21/22 etc, because funnily enough, they alr
