Shirelles lawsuit against 'Baby It's You!'

Apr 27, 2011 — 2:05:20 PM

When I saw Baby, It's You all I learned about The Shirelles was that they were discovered at a high school in Passaic, NJ. There was precious little biographical information about them in the show, unless you're counting which venues they played on tour and with whom...

Did Roundabout do a $10 ticket promotion for Death Takes a Holiday at the Pels?

Apr 27, 2011 — 1:59:38 PM

There was a $10 ticket promotion for Death Takes a Holiday, but it began whenever the tickets went on sale, which was a few months ago. I've never done the $10 tickets at the Laura Pels, so I'm not sure where the seats will be, but at Studio 54 and American Airlines it's usually the last few rows of the mezz.

'Memphis' predictions that were fantastical-ly wrong

Jun 15, 2010 — 11:26:55 AM

Own those opinions/predictions, people! Your only mistake is not predicting how lackluster the rest of the season would be. (Count me as one of those who left Memphis at intermission.)

re: African-America Phantom of The Opera?

Mar 20, 2009 — 11:31:51 PM

Yes, Benson was the Phantom. I'm sorry I missed that. I saw Sammy Davis Jr. perform in 1989, and he told the audience that he was in talks to play the Phantom on Broadway. Unfortunately, he passed away within a year's time and it never happened.

He is currently being fantastic in Les Miz in Philadelphia. That voice...whatever happened to that cd he was supposed to do? Because I need it.

Who was robbed

The cast of The 39 Steps.

re: Nikki Snelson (LB) could be next Cassie in ACL!

Threadjacking a bit, but I never got the idea that Come to Your Senses was supposed to be performed badly. (I suppose if I'd only seen Molly Ringwald in the role I might think differently...)

re: Busker Alley

Nov 16, 2007 — 10:26:43 AM

Justme, I think the song you are referring to is called "Baby Me". I saw the Busker Alley benefit last year with Jim Dale and Glenn Close, and they were still depicting a romance between Charley and Libby. I was hoping they'd go back to the source material; in the movie the show was based on, the romance was much more one-sided. The storyline didn't really work with Jim Dale and Jessica Grove, either.

re: Strouse: 'BIRDIE' Revival at Roundabout

Nov 8, 2007 — 5:24:11 PM

I'd like to see Roxane Carrasco as Rose. Somebody get her back on the boards, please. (And I am happy to have Jeffry Denman in anything.) BTW, Brooks Ashmanskas and Stephanie J. Block played Albert and Rose in Sacramento in 1999...

re: Rocky Horror Shout-Outs

Aug 24, 2007 — 3:23:08 PM

But since the movie came out, the callbacks have been used in London during Rocky Horror Show revivals. (They seem to revive it pretty regularly there!) The audiences didn't just start using them for the U.S. stage revival.

re: The Problem With Drowsy:

Anyone know when John Glover's last day is? I enjoyed his performance quite a bit, particularly his reactions to the audience. I do think that Bob Martin was just naturally more endearing...Glover takes awhile to warm up to. But it's fun to see him play against type.
