Lately, people have been saying that the Drowsy Chaperone hasn't been as god as it was. Personally, I support that opinion 100% However, I support the idea that the show could be easily saved another 100%. Here are the poblems with the show as of right now:
*Due to the fact that the show had alot of scenery, the show needed the Marquis theatre. However, the marquis theatre is WAY to large for a show like this, material wise.
*Some of the new replacements (including JoAnne Worley, John Glover, and Gerry vichi) DO NOT fit the roles at all! Joanne Worley doesn't act stupid, John Glover ruins every gay joke, and Gerry is GHFUYNBFHYJFNDFBFDGHGJF because you can't DFUMGHHMCV-understand-GDGYJBNZDFHNM him.
Now, here's a couple solutions:
First, have the show move to a much smaller theatre(My pick is either the Walter Kerr or the Booth) and have the show use a slightly smaller set. now when the show moves, some casting should definaely change. If Georgia can not come back, Carol channing would be perfect for the role. The Man in the Chair could be easily played by David Hyde Pierce, Christian Borle, or john Tartaglia. The producer could be played by almost anyone, but we have to understand that person. I also think that Elaine Paige would be a perfect replacement for the Chaperone. What do yo think?

I mentioned this in another thread----but,
I think if Bob Martin returned----there'd be a renewal of interest. It is his show and I've seen it w/o him and (IMO), he's the heart of the show.

there might be a renewal of interest if he returned but for how long would that interest last? It's a lovely show and I have seen it a few times but I think it has a more noticeable shelf-life than many other shows.

>First, have the show move to a much smaller theatre(My pick is either the Walter Kerr or the Booth)<
But where would the several million dollars come from for the cost of a move, and the construction of a new set? Plus, the Walter Kerr and the Booth are both booked.
>The Man in the Chair could be easily played by David Hyde Pierce, Christian Borle, or john Tartaglia.<
David Hyde Pierce and Christian Borle are otherwise engaged right now and aren't leaving their respective shows to join Drowsy. Tartaglia has his TV show, no?
>I also think that Elaine Paige would be a perfect replacement for the Chaperone.<
She didn't sell very well in Sunset Blvd. here, and she couldn't keep Drowsy going in London where she's a star.
I can't speak for the rest of the casting, as I haven't seen the replacements. I'm sure the producers have other names up their sleeves for the future.
As for the show, it may be hard for the fans to see it not have the grosses or capacity it used to, but it's still performing profitably, so what's the harm?

I would *love* to see Bob return as Man in Chair but I doubt it at this point. I believe his wife had a baby last month and he is preparing for the Toronto leg of the tour.
I adore this show but am very unhappy with most of the recent cast changes. I do like Patrick Wetzel, but that's about it. To me, Beth and Danny are the only ones keeping that show afloat. I haven't seen Mara Davi but am hoping too in the next few weeks. I really hope this show can be saved because it seems to be going downhill fast.

Posted: 8/6/07 at 10:46amYou know who I think would be the *perfect* Man in the Chair? Colin Mocherie.

"The Man in the Chair could be easily played by David Hyde Pierce, Christian Borle, or john Tartaglia."
Yes, no and no.
I could see Hyde Pierce in the part, though he is contracted to be in Curtains for some time now, but Borle and Tartaglia would be badly miscast, espeically Tartaglia. I they're both too young, but especially John Tartaglia.

I agree, it could stand to play in a smaller theater.
Whats going into the Music Box after Deuce? What theater is Frost/Nixon in?
I agree with Colin Mocherie and also think Bob Stillman (Gould in GG) would be a PERFECT "Man In Chair." Obviously having Bob Martin back for a while would be ideal.
I believe that Beth isn't going anywhere anytime soon, from what I've heard she still enjoys the role and from what I saw, shes still wonderful in it. If she were to leave, I'd say Elaine Paige, Lucie Arnaz?, or Maureen Moore (was offered the role at one point).
I'd love to have Georgia back for Mrs Tottendale.

I think that the tour may become a "testing ground" for people to go to the various other productions.
Its ending up very much like Wicked (sit-down in Canada, touring and Broadway productions).
Nancy could do the tour for a while and certainly come to Broadway.

"Bob Stillman (Gould in GG) would be a PERFECT "Man In Chair.""
Absolutely! And maybe he could play the piano onstage too! I'd got back to Drowsy to see him play Man in Chair.

You've now gone on to both threads about hypothetical casting and posted non-productive posts.
Here's an idea, you see the title of the thread, stay the **** out
I'm not listing Bob because he played a "fem home" role in GG, I think his comic timing was perfect for that of the dry humor of Man in Chair.

Hello? Don't you get that this thread was started as a joke?
Read the initial post.
The fact that so many people are engaging in the initiator's ridiculous suggestions is hilarious.

>Whats going into the Music Box after Deuce?<
The Farnsworth Invention.
>What theater is Frost/Nixon in?<
The Jacobs, which is booked with Rock 'n' Roll this fall.
And the Booth has The Seafarer, the Lyceum has Is He Dead?, the Belasco has Lone Star Love, the Cort has The Homecoming, the Kerr has A Catered Affair (and a possible limited run fall project), the Rodgers has In the Heights and possibly the limited run of Cyrano, and the Longacre is under renovation and the Imperial is being held for Billy Elliot, so no long-term tenants are possible. There are no smaller theatre options for Drowsy.

All they need to do is put a name in that show and it'll run as long as they want it to.
Whether it be a new man in chair or drowsy chaperone, if they put a huge star or two in that'll be that. Too bad Megan Mullaly is busy- she'd make a great chaperone.

It would be:
Megan Mullaly is Karen Walker as The Drowsy Chaperone
But I can't say I'd be complaining.

I agree Colin Mocherie would be the best for the job... he'd bring everything needed to the part and he's a pretty big name... I would definitely want to see it if he's in it.
What's this 2 man improv show? Is the other man Ryan Stiles?

I thought the show was perfect just as it was when I saw it last June. Don't think the theatre is too big. If it comes here, it will be playing in a 2,800 seat house. Now that's big!
And a typo made by the original poster....
Lately, people have been saying that the Drowsy Chaperone hasn't been as god as it was. Should be good!
