Trump takeover of Kennedy Center

Jul 22, 2025 — 8:21:20 PM

KevinKlawitter said: "An amendment added to an Interior Department funding billstipulated that the Kennedy Center Opera House must be renamed "The First Lady Melania Trump Opera House" in order to receive federal funding."I'm sure they will add golden all over... which means the correct rename would be...The First Lady of the Evening Melania Trump Opulent House

Could the Ed Sullivan Theatre return to Broadway?

Jul 18, 2025 — 1:44:58 AM

Thanks for the beautiful photo of the balcony and the stained glass windows (they were removed and put in storage by the Letterman show). I have an old theater book and stuff on the internet says this was a 1200 seat theater when it was first opened... it now has 300 or 400 seat capacity. This could be another Helen Hayes or an Amsterdam Theater-type renovation. The stained glass and the ceiling are worth it.

BOOP! x Tony Awards

Jun 4, 2025 — 8:03:07 PM

I would take issue with the Tony Awards not being representative... and yeah, the award recipients in certain categories may not be very representative (director categories for women or people of color) but overall the theater IS representative and for the most part the Tony Awards broadcast has been as well.

OPERATION MINCEMEAT Previews

Mar 6, 2025 — 12:40:20 AM

I have been a little out of touch and didn't know what to expect, but loved this show. It is funny and clever and a true story no less. The cast was great with high energy and the music fits the show. The issues people noted in prior posts was not a problem at my performance.Loved Maybe Happy Ending a little more than this but it is great to see original shows this season. Did not see Dead Outlaw in its prior run so looking forward to seeing that (kind of weird that dead characters are having...

BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB Previews

Mar 6, 2025 — 12:31:46 AM

I saw a preview a couple weeks ago. The book is in English but the songs are all in Spanish. The Playbill has an insert that outlines each song with some history and synopsis - so you know the emotion of the song (for lack of a better phrase) even if you don't know the words. Definitely helped with my enjoyment of the show.I enjoyed the book scenes (even if predictable) but I think everyone would agree the music is very good. I sat next to a Cuban man who told me during intermission he grew u...

Donald Trump Takes Over the Kennedy Center

Cannot wait to get tickets to the opening gala for the J6 Choir recital… UGH… or Dean Cain in that Obamagate play about Peter Strock and Lisa Page…

OPERATION MINCEMEAT Previews

Feb 22, 2025 — 9:45:17 PM

I like some but not all British humor but this is not a zany British humor show. It is a improbably true story and this is standard musical fare and not specific to British humor. It has funny silliness to start and adds depth as it goes along… I am glad I saw it now… even in previews it is playing to a full house.

Betty Gilpin joins OH, MARY as Mary Todd Lincoln. Extended through June 28th, 2025!

Dec 9, 2024 — 11:20:45 PM

Cole wrote and starred in this and made it a thing in the much more affordable off-broadway makret... that word of mouth gave it legs on Broadway... this role is not unlike John Cameron Mitchell and Hedwig... many other men took on the role and it continued... Ally Sheedy took on the role and wasn't well received. The whole joyful conceit of this show is Escola or someone who fits into that lane...

Protesters at Suffs tonight

Jul 3, 2024 — 3:54:32 PM

I did not see the off-Broadway version of the show, but from what I have read about this, the Broadway version rewrote the book to include (highlight?) the racism within the women's suffrage movement. Not sure if the black suffrage leaders were in the original version or just the Broadway version, but it seems this protest group has not seen the current Broadway version... what they highlight on their (badly created) website is exactly what is in the show... three primary balck suffragists Ida...

Maleah Joi Moon replaced during performance 6/4

Jun 13, 2024 — 10:26:12 PM

I found that on Reddit but wondered if there was any news reporting on this. Not common for a rising star on the cusp of possibly winning a Tony award dropping out mid-perforance and then being out for several days. You would think Playbill or Broadway World or Theatermania would have reported this, or reporting a statement from the production.

Maleah Joi Moon replaced during performance 6/4

Jun 13, 2024 — 9:08:21 PM

I could not find any posts on this...I saw Hell's Kitchen Saturday evening 6/8 and Maleah Joi Moon was not in. The understudy Jade Milan played Ali (and she was incredible).I read later that Maleah Joi Moon was replaced early in the performance on Tuesday evening 6/4 - reports say she was either injured during the second number or she was sick and straining with her voice.Understudies go on all the time, scheduled and not for whatever reason. But, since Maleah was out for several days I wonde...

What Tony Upset Are You Hoping For?

Kecia Lewis for Hell's KitchenStereophonic for score even if you dont hear the full score during the performance... although I did not see Here Lies Love and have not heard the score but the songs on the Stereophonic cast recording really does give you a feel for what the show was about

Spring Trip Suggestions

But the circus choreo and Paul Alexander Nolan's performance is spectacular.I'm seeing Outsiders on Weds, so can't comment on it yetHey DramaMama... been laying low for some time. W4E circus choreography is kind of a draw for me and I saw a clip...

Hey All -- not a newbie but looking for suggestions...In NYC next month and I already have tix for:Stereophonic, Hells Kitchen, Enemy of the People, The Mother Play, Sally and Tom, Breaking the Story. Helen Hayes seating for Appropriate

Jan 25, 2024 — 5:54:03 PM

BIG thanks for the info... if you were on the side in row F, there are only three rows in front of you. I am guessing the unhappy people were in row C which is the first row and lower than the stage even without the junk downstage on each side.Your post is helpful as I am in E1 - only one row in front of yours albeit on the left orch side.Tickets today are so expensive, getting agitae over something like this is unneccesary. And you know I only found that "complaint" right after I booked the ...

Helen Hayes seating for Appropriate

Jan 25, 2024 — 2:03:34 PM

Turns out I am on orchestra left and not right (I have E1). I have looked at several photos on View from My Seat and there is a View from My Seat for E1 taken at a performance of Appropriate and the poster did not give an angry COULD NOT SEE comment. The pile of stuff doesn't look that dauntingly high, but you never know until you get there. Based on the photo in A View from My Seat, I am going to roll the dice and assume I will be able to see fine (so maybe I don't see the actors feet.Someone...

Helen Hayes seating for Appropriate

Jan 24, 2024 — 10:01:56 PM

I read a comment posted on the NYTimes review of the play Appropriate at the Helen Hayes owned by 2nd Stage company. The comment complained pretty vociferously about the partial view in the right Orchestra side seats (2, 4, 6.... et al).Apparently there is piles of stuff that blocks the view to the stage for all but about the last half hour. The poster said they were subscribers and received a refund for the show.I became a subscriber this year (out of towner and get a subscripion if the show...

The 76th Annual TONY Awards!

Bettyboy72 said: "Made me really sad to see Joel and John trotted out and then turned around by a mugging Ariana and Julianne like they were aides in a nursing home. Can the men not speak for a moment? Really bizarre. Also really livid for Stephen McKinley Henderson. The man is a legendary actor. Sean Hayes, who was wonderful, doesn’t touch the mastery of SMH. That Tony was a joke. Doug Wright is a sitcom writer. He did not write a legendary play."Joel Grey and John Kander had their pre-teleca...
