Some were born to follow, but they were born to lead!
Those clever, sneaky recruits of MI5 make their way across the Atlantic, as the musical Operation Mincemeat kicks off its Broadway run tomorrow night (February 15) at the John Golden Theatre. The ensemble piece — which won last year’s Olivier Award for best new musical — features the uproarious original London cast members David Cumming, Natasha Hodgson, Zoë Roberts, Jak Malone, and Claire-Marie Hall. Operation Mincemeat, scheduled to open on March 20 and running through June 15, features a score and book by the quartet SpitLip (Cumming, Hodgson, Roberts, and Felix Hagan), choreography by Jenny Arnold, and direction by Robert Hastie.
“The year is 1943 and right now we’re losing the war. Luckily, we’re about to gamble all our futures on a stolen corpse. Singin’ in the Rain meets Strangers on a Train, Operation Mincemeat is the fast-paced, hilarious and unbelievable true story of the twisted secret mission that won us World War II. Bursting at the seams with the kind of chaos you couldn’t invent, the question is: how did a dead body, a fake love letter, and — of all people — Ian Fleming come together to wrong-foot Hitler?”
You have your orders, now who’s following through?

https://www.esquire.com/uk/culture/a63685355/operation-mincemeat/ was a good read, but I still think it's going to be a tough sell.
I will also be there, but I’m admittedly going in with a bias because I think this was such a genius show when I first saw it on the West End in 2023.
I’m just curious as to how the American audience will receive it, but also how it will use the space/sightlines of the Golden, since it has twice the seating capacity of the Fortune, but no second balcony.

looks like it's selling very well and previews haven't started. I guess they already have good word of mouth from the London run.

Selling very well already with $149+ ticket prices. First preview sold out except 2 single seats. Monday and Tuesday, of next week, 95% sold. Great first 3 shows before word of mouth takes off. OMM and and Dead Outlaw are heading to the front of the new musical pack for awards season...
I will be there tomorrow and can't wait! I was at the first West End preview in 2023 and I've been obsessed with the show ever since. Already have tix booked for another trip too.
Now THAT is a marquee!

Got my $39 tix with that promo code that expired yesterday... and there weren't many seats left! Super excited to see this next week
I love this show. So excited for those of you who get to enjoy it soon for the first time. Enjoy!
Add me to the chorus of those who love this show - I've seen it twice in London and it's become one of my favorite musicals.
I already have tickets to 2 performances here and so looking forward to seeing the original cast again.
So unless they find another supplier it looks like the marquee won't be lit until March...

Yep, stuck in China because of F*ckface's tariffs.

Not saying these tariffs aren't ridiculous, but they also weren't planning on having the bulbs for the marquee until a week before starting performances? That sounds like poor planning on their part.
I think my stand on Trump and his supporters should be clear by now, but the claim that Trump is responsible for this strains my credulity unless I see documentary evidence that I'm sure no one will ever see. And even if it's true, it seems like they're latching on to the actual pain Trump is causing to score a cheap headline. I look forward to seeing the show in April but this leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't see the show for another few weeks but this is insanity. He's a moron
I'm a little incredulous about that, as well, particularly as there haven't been a lot of reports of goods being delayed in shipment as of yet. But absent any details, it's hard to assess the validity of this claim.
It is more likely that they didn't get their order in early enough. Lunar New Year was the last week of January, and almost all businesses shut down in China for the holiday. When I was working for a company that imported lighting fixtures from China there was always a wait for items ordered during the weeks leading up to and after that holiday.
Anywhooooo.
I went to dress tonight on a lucky whim and, yeah, it’s basically perfect. Other than a few flubs of lines (which were covered by perfect ad-libbing) and a weird delay starting Act II, it was exactly how it was in London and I loved every last damn minute of it. There were also some moments where the cast broke and it had that surprise funny factor and the audience was into it.
These are the people who wrote it and played it for the whole journey, so they know what they are doing and they do it damn well. Much like London, I see Cumming and Hodgson in the race for Leads and Malone for Supporting. Malone’s “Dear Bill” also seemed to get much deeper than it was in London.
They already are up to the hilt in merch (it wasn’t for sale tonight). They had 2 tee shirts, magnet, windowcard, program, cast recording, Chomondeley mug and tote bag.
For those of us going tomorrow, I’m probably thinking getting there early is going to be the move since I can see this merch FLYING off the shelves with all the Mincefans and Mincefluencers going to first preview.
The show also started at 7:40 and ended around 10:20 - accounting for the delay of Act II, it ran about 2:30-2:35

As was the case in London, the musical will feature a small, four-piece band playing through the orchestrations of Tony nominee Steve Sidwell (BEAUTIFUL).
For previews, OPERATION MINCEMEAT will be conducted by Joe Bunker (also direct from the West End). Post-opening, the baton will be handed off to Joshua Zecher-Ross, who recently worked on THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES in Boston.
