Saw this tonight - yikes. And I ADORE L5Y. Agree with the general consensus but one thing I didn’t see mentioned is Warren is almost too charming/sympathetic. The genius of the original show is that you can see the faults in both Jamie AND Cathy and how the relationship was always doomed. With no visible faults in Warren’s Cathy (besides interpreting the actual lyrics she’s singing) it really paints Jamie as the villain. Yeah, it’s dated, but I enjoyed it! Agree it’s the perfect type of production for Encores. The couple’s power dynamic was interesting to watch as the time periods marched by, coming to a head at the very end.

First exposure to the material. Didn’t do much for me. Even tried to put myself back in 2001 mentally and still nothing. Just not that funny. And spent too much time trying to buy into the conceit (can’t they just go in containers? Or in the dirt somewhere?)I did enjoy Little Sally and Lockstop. I thought Little Sally was excellent, she had great comedic timing. Rainn Wilson was fun, perfect as a treat in a 2 week run. Hope’s outfit was giving me major Glinda vibes.

At intermission - maybe I am easy to please but this is a lot of fun! Sutton shines!

Got Rush tickets yesterday at 9:20 after trying for All the Devils Are Here until sell out for the first 15 mins of the 9am hour. Whoever suggested to just keep clicking until the system says all tickets are sold out is correct. Fabulous production. Jefferson Mays is a gem. Staging, lighting, sound - everything built to enhance his performance. Probably the best show I’ve seen all year. Don’t miss this!!

What changes were made from the Broadway version (besides the previously mentioned song cut)? Wiki says the original production was criticized for having too many racial slurs - did they revise the dialogue? I didn’t notice an excessive use.Agree on Platt - was looking forward to him but he came across as good but not extraordinary. I wonder if he doesn’t know what to do with a non-eccentric role. Sad to hear - Beetlejuice was a fun time. I went twice in early 2020 so likely avoided the worst of the stans which seem to have resurfaced post pandemic.I often wondered if they were going to survive a principal cast change. Guess not! Pretty good run for them (3 months short of 2 yrs), and unusual for principals to stick around that long. I think the cast really enjoyed the project. Curious to see where Alex lands next.

She sounds great! Even if I can’t unhear the vocal “cry”s she does ever since I saw a YouTuber point them out. But she has reduced them a bit.

Have tickets for the last weekend of Aug (Julie’s original announced weekend before all the fiasco), was looking forward to seeing Lynch. What is with this production? Will take solace in that Liz will likely be better.
