Niche/offbeat but high quality Sondheim performances - what are your fav?
 Nov 16 2025, 07:08:04 PM

Here are some of mine that get repeats:

Marin singing Old Friends/Like it Was

Emily Skinner singing (tied for) my favorite version of Could I Leave You (tied with Donna's and Jan Maxwell's perhaps more well-known versions of course)

Shoshana's Finishing the Hat (the first time I ever actually understood this song. It made me weep.)

@ 3:35, Beth Leavel's (somewhat schticky but nevertheless) heartbreaking version of Not While I'm Around

Elaine singing Anyone Can Whistle

Liza's Rose's Turn ('get off of my runway' sends shivers down my spine every time)

Linda Lavin singing The Boy From...

And a handful of random other favorites

Gavin Creel - One Year Later
 Sep 30 2025, 10:43:36 PM

I'm reading through the new material on the website as I watch the Met version on YT (I wanted to re-acquaint myself before listening without visuals). David Hyde Pierce is listed as (seemingly?) a financial producer on both the MCC production and the album itself. Douglas Sills is also in the "special thanks" section for the album.

I never knew there was a connection there. Anyone else?

But yes, like you all and many more, spent lots of time today... and thi

Yes...? Did you listen to it?

Ricky Ian Gordon recs
 Aug 18 2025, 08:41:28 AM

This season's Floyd Collins really got me into Guettel. I'm trying to find more composers of that ilk and Ricky Ian Gordon keeps getting recommended to me.

Any favorite tracks or places you'd recommend to start? Or other composers with similar vibes?

Ragtime LincTix Swap
 Aug 16 2025, 04:28:17 PM

I anticipate this being fruitless but it couldn't hurt.

TL;DR
Looking to swap my Saturday, Nov 29th 8pm ticket for Nov 1st 2pm

I got my linctix ticket for Ragtime, but then got tickets for Bat Boy... trying to prevent coming to the city twice in one month.

Anyone interested in a swap?

Could also swap for Oct 31st evening show.

Big Fish Promo Cd - Time Stops
 Jul 5 2025, 02:02:53 PM

Hey y'all.

Many years ago when Big Fish was doing it's pre-broadway in Chicago, they released two singles available for download from the musical's website - Fight the Dragons and Time Stops.

Fight the Dragons was pretty much the same as the cast album. However, Time Stops was slightly different in that NLB hits a gorgeous Ab at the end of the number.

Does anyone have this that they could send my way? I'd be so appreciative. I can't find the file anywh

FLOYD COLLINS Reviews
 May 25 2025, 12:23:22 PM

It breaks my heart when people say the show isn't a good show. I thought this was so lovely, and small, and quiet and heartbreaking through and through. Auggie27 sums it up perfectly.

I will agree that it has its slow moments, but so what? I'll also agree that I was a little disappointed by Lizzy's direction. I also wish it was in a shoebox theater.

But I more than enjoyed myself and we are truly so spoiled to be able to hear a score as brilliant as this one.

Cabaret revival question
 May 19 2025, 04:52:01 PM

Saw Orville and Eva a few days ago and have been thinking about it nonstop.

One question I have - in "I Don't Care Much", what is the intention of this tender moment between Emcee and Sally? He looks terrified at first before he realizes its her... whats going on there?

Ok, I guess two other questions:

2. What was the significance of placing the statues... soldiers? Toys? On the revolve during... i forget which number.

3. I felt like that was echoed i

I appreciate everyone's opinions!! At this point I think I'm leaning towards the plays which is generally uncharacteristic of me.

Everyone's Favorite - "What Should I See"
 May 1 2025, 09:38:51 AM

So I have tickets already for Gypsy, Pirates, Glengarry, Floyd Collins and The Last Bimbo.

I have one matinee open. I'm torn between:

Death Becomes Her: Saw in Chicago and absolutely LOVED it. Would love to see what changes are made.

Oh, Mary: Kind of a moot point - I can only afford the lottery, and if I win I'll absolutely be seeing this.

The Outsiders: I think at the bottom of

Have You Left at Intermission?
 Apr 20 2025, 12:04:18 PM

Only once. The recent Lord of the Rings musical in Chicago. It was nice enough. Perhaps if I wasn't in town visiting friends I would've stayed, but I just would've rather spent time with them than be in a show that really wasn't very good.

IOBDB changes
 Apr 12 2025, 11:06:12 PM

As someone who frequents IBDB and IOBDB ... The changes to the off broadway database are horrific. So not user friendly. What happened?! Anybody? Or is this a me problem hahahah

If anyone has a link i'd be forever grateful.

Gavin Creel's WALK ON THROUGH Available To Watch For Free
 Nov 16 2024, 10:19:32 PM

Watched it today and was moved to tears more than a couple times. I had tickets for this at MCC but it was cancelled due to Gavin being sick. I imagine some of the numbers hit harder now that he is no longer with us... but his talent as a songwriter and storyteller are undeniable. I am disappointed to have missed this in person, but so grateful to witness his glorious talent and HUMANness in this video. Thank you to the MET!
