It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since we lost Gavin Creel. Gone far too soon, and Broadway feels a little dimmer without his talent and his heart lighting it up.
I was lucky enough to see him in just about everything - from his breakout in Thoroughly Modern Millie, to Into the Woods, and so many concerts, benefits, and special performances along the way. Every time, he brought that rare combination of soaring voice, effortless charm, and deep generosity of spirit that made him one of a kind.
Today I’m remembering not only the performances, but the person - the warmth he brought into every room, and the joy he shared with audiences and colleagues alike. His artistry stays with us, and his absence is deeply felt.
Missing you, Gavin. Thank you for the music, the magic, and the heart.
Hard to believe it's been a year.
Is anyone listening to the newly-released live cast recording of his WALK ON THROUGH?
I really believe he was the greatest male vocalist the musical theatre has ever had.
He is deeply missed and I feel for his loved ones.
A year later and, honestly, I still can’t believe he’s gone. Whenever I see a reminder, I’m like, “oh god, that’s right.”
A whole year.
Let's remember how lucky we are to still be here.
I'm reading through the new material on the website as I watch the Met version on YT (I wanted to re-acquaint myself before listening without visuals). David Hyde Pierce is listed as (seemingly?) a financial producer on both the MCC production and the album itself. Douglas Sills is also in the "special thanks" section for the album.
I never knew there was a connection there. Anyone else?
But yes, like you all and many more, spent lots of time today... and this year thinking of him, his contributions to the American theater, and the sparkle he left in the world.
