OMG. Always so nice and truly so talented… I thought I was misreading it when I saw this. And really finally getting his due the last several years. Ugh. Seriously tragic.
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

This is truly devastating. What a loss."
“Fewer than half of people with this condition live five years after diagnosis.” I’m speechless. Such a horrible disease.
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

My sister just called to check on me after she heard the news... and ended up being the one telling me. We grew up on the Eloise movies together and then we were lucky to see him in "Hello, Dolly!" together.
A phrase I've never used, but sums me up right now. I am shook.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

F*CK cancer."
My mom and I told him how much we love Eloise when we saw him at the Dolly stage door.
This is heartbreaking. I am so sorry to all those who knew and loved him.
In the spirit of sharing what a kind man Gavin was: when I was in high school, I was writing a paper for my journalism class on theatre criticism. I reached out to a couple of Broadway performers via MySpace (lol) to ask if they'd like to contribute any thoughts for my silly paper.
Gavin not only replied, but sent me what turned out to be two pages worth of his thoughts on the topic. It meant the absolute world to teenage me and left such an impact. He was generous with his time when he had absolutely no need to be.

I am devastated. Way too young. I was lucky enough to see him in She Loves Me, Waitress, and Into the Woods. He was a scene-stealer in all. Cancer is so cruel.
There are performers that make you think the art form of musical theatre just sprung up from the ground in service of their talents. We lost one of the best of those performers today.
Utterly shocked. What a loss. Gavin Creel was an artist who had just transitioned from reliable player to genuine star, and I was so ready to hear his work as a composer and performer blossom. I was lucky enough to see him in four of his roles over the years (Hair, She Loves Me, Book of Mormon and Into the Woods) and each time he just shone on stage. His work in Into the Woods was an unforgettable act of scene-stealing, the kind of once-in-a-lifetime role reinvention that you don't know is possible until you see it done so well. F*ck cancer, and let's lift up the community today. This guy was such a light.
I was fortunate enough to have seen him in Hello, Dolly! the Saturday night before the 2017 Tonys. I also attended the ceremony the following night. I'll never forget how cool it was that his former Throughly Modern Millie leading lady, Sutton Foster, was one of the people who presented him his award.
