Billy Porter out of Cabaret 8/20

Aug 20, 2025 — 9:16:44 PM

God knows there's plenty of valid criticism of Porter, especially with regards to his comments, but incessant bullying of performers is a very Broadway specific ugliness, based on poor bootlegs. Some of the pile on has genuinely scared me because I've seen young people throw out racist Trump speak like "DEI-hire" and these people are seeking to uphold the integrity of Cabaret of all things. Death of both empathy and literacy. There was similarly very ugly vitriol towards Feldstein, and she ha...

Cabaret Casting Rumor: Orville Peck & Eva Noblezada

Why are you having a whole meltdown over people not thinking the same as you?And lmao, if I recall you were one of the first people to see the production in London and couldn't stop praising Eddie R then?

From the seating charts it look like the Broadway renovation was more signifigant (I'm aware the West End and Broadway economic models are different). I've never been to the West End at all and haven't been in the August Wilson since it was the pre-renovation Virginia (the "high school auditorium" look), so the photos don't help me compare. Was...

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 10/13/24

People here have a hate boner for this production, so keep talking about as if everyone involved is completely stupid. Water for Elephants came in with a similar capitalization and running costs, received better reviews and has already announced closing. Tammy Faye is coming in with a similar capitalization and the writing for that one also seems to be on the wall.

Hailed as “cheap” or “ghetto.”This is why some folks will never understand how people of color have to always be ten times better than their peers to be remotely praised for anything."There are 4 leads. 2 are people of color. The ensemble is diverse. Wth?

NY critics were also very taken in by the spectacle of both Tommy and Water for Elephants (that had some truly baffling reviews) this year, neither of which seemed to have appealed to audiences.

I'm bracing for very divided opinions. In other news, I wonder if the bad reviews will hurt McNeal or if it's critic-proof. Time will tell!"But that's the thing I'm getting at : it wasn't universally loved in the UK, at least among the critics (though none were pans, but as per their own rating, 3 stars). Th...

The first performance was completely sold at full price, but that is not the case for the rest of the run at the moment. Not by a long shot. I have faith that it'll become the show you have to see this season. But, it's not there there yet."Will Su...

They have changing schedules. There seem to have Sunday matinees again in the November to mid February weeks. I think their first 1-1.5 months they had Sundays as well.

2024 Outer Critics Circle Nominations & Awards

Apr 23, 2024 — 4:29:01 PM

Merrily wasn't eligible since it was nominated last year. None of the others you mentioned played Broadway or Off-Broadway since the last nominations. Illinoise is off/Broadway since it hasn't actually started Broadway.

2024 Outer Critics Circle Nominations & Awards

About 7 people are involved in these nominations and it shows. And lmao, literally every play revival nominated in that category. But guess it means that Uncle Vanya is not going to have a very warm reception.
