CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Review - 1 Minute Critic Apr 20 2026, 09:31:29 AM
Agreed. I saw last Wednesday's matinee. They didn't start until 2:14, and we weren't out of the theatre until 4:45. You could technically make it work, but you'll almost certainly be seated late at Schmigadoon.

I saw the original production and it was only an hour long."
Signs in the lobby said 85 minutes, and I think that's about right.

Has anyone else seen this?
Saw it tonight and thought it was a miss. Cast is working hard to make the material work, but they don't have much to work with. Structure of the show seems a mess.
I'd be very curious to hear how others respond -- especially a bit farther into previews.

THE BALUSTERS Previews Apr 12 2026, 09:56:11 AM
One other note: They need to turn down the levels on every cast member's microphone. Every cast member's voice was so clearly being amplified that it was distracting and took away from the natural feeling of the text.

THE BALUSTERS Previews Apr 10 2026, 11:28:17 PM
I'm not quite as positive on the show as earlier posters. It's fine. I laughed. The cast is universally good. But we've seen this play before. The Minutes, Thanksgiving Play, Eureka Day, and so many others off Broadway... I'm tiring of the hypocritical rich liberal takedown play. This is a perfectly fine version of that play. But I'm itching for something more.

IDK...I kind of liked this earnest little scrappy piece."

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW Previews Apr 3 2026, 09:53:31 AM
If I go back (which isn't unlikely), I've got a planned callback for the end of Once in a While:
"Now let's go rob that motherf*cking train."

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW Previews Apr 3 2026, 09:41:41 AM
I saw this last night (mezzanine row MM). I'm a general appreciator of Rocky Horror but not a devotee...and there was a lot to like in this production, but I was disappointed in it overall.
Luke Evans, Stephanie Hsu, Andrew Durand, and Amber Gray are all giving excellent performances.
The staging is sloppy. The lighting is confusing. It feels like they couldn't decide between fake low budget camp and big budget spectacle...and the space it

THE LOST BOYS Previews Apr 1 2026, 12:04:59 AM
I saw this tonight from the Balcony, which led to some sight issues. My instinct is that the entire balcony is actually partial view based on the staging. You won't miss anything that matters, but you will miss things.
The show is fine. The spectacle is fine. The twinks flew. There's nothing you haven't seen before or seen done better elsewhere. But the sum is just better enough than the whole of its parts that it aaaaalmost works. &n

OH, MARY! Reviews Jun 28 2025, 09:33:20 AM
We've all done this before, but I have a free hour and let my brain wander.
People I think could play Mary
Women of SNL: Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Kristen Wiig, Aidy Bryant
Issa Rae, Linda Cardellini, Melissa McCarthy, Martha Plimpton, Stephanie Hsu, D'Arcy Carden, Annie Murphy
Amy Seders, obvs
Matteo Lane, Joel Kim Booster, Bowen Yang, Dan Levy
Of course, few of these are realistic...but that's what dreams are for.

Rocky Horror Show Revival Cast Jan 29 2026, 09:11:00 AM
Great choices all around, but I'm particularly excited about Stephanie Hsu. She was my favorite part of Be More Chill, and I'm THRILLED that she's going to be back on Broadway.

Kad said: "The upside, of course, is that Mexodus would likely be the lowest-cost musical to hit Broadway in decades."
And is virtually guaranteed to win Best Musical. Unless The Lost Boys or Schmigadoon far exceeds expectations.

The Hell's Kitchen closing announcement timing is interesting. Though the Shubert would be a ginormous house for this show. Though Mexodus feels like one of the only shows that could still open in time for Tony noms with that quick of a turnaround.

BAT BOY : The Musical at NYCC Encores! Oct 31 2025, 11:44:50 AM
There are also some very significant structural changes to the show, particularly as it relates to the townspeople. These are post-London changes. But yes, they use "Mine All Mine".

The Public Theater - Ethan Lipton’s “The Seat of Our Pants” Oct 25 2025, 11:22:09 PM
I wasn't as sold on this as some of the other posters. I'm familiar with the source material and also really loved Lileana Blain-Cruz's LCT production.
The cast is doing some great work, and there are some excellent moments. But it took FOREVER to get through. I wanted every aspect of the show tightened and sped up. But perhaps I've just gotten too used to listening to podcasts at 1.5x speed.
I went in wondering why this

Oratorio for Living Things returns at Signature Oct 23 2025, 09:04:00 AM
I loved this at Ars Nova, and I loved it just as much at Signature. I'd been grappling with how to describe it to people, and I landed on "It's not musical theatre; it's theatrical music."
For anyone who hasn't seen it, I'd recommend to just sit back and let the experience wash over you. The first 5-10 minutes are fairly impenetrable lyrically, by design. But then once things open up (and the lyrics shift to predominantly Engl

L Morgan Lee to direct THE DROWSY CHAPERONE concert for Carnegie Hall. Cox, Newell, Van Ness and more to star. Oct 21 2025, 01:24:36 PM
Chiming in to add my praise to the event overall. Yes, it was a little sloppy, and the sound mixing was terrible throughout, but everyone was having a great time, and I did, too. And it is not lost on me how important it is to see a stage full of trans and nonbinary performers in a joyful piece of theatre right now.
My specific thoughts pretty much echo what's already been shared. Chris Renfro was the superstar of the evening. Alex Newell did what Alex Newell does to great effect. Laverne Cox was a far better comedic performer than I expected. Dylan Mulvaney was absolutely giving Ellen Greene. Peppermint was a hoot. I also want to shout out Gio Coppola and Futaba as the Gangsters, whose timing and chemistry was very impressive given how little time they had to rehearse.
