BLACK SWAN and WONDER world premiere musicals and more set for American Repertory Theatre

Was just coming to share about Malloy's Black Swan!

Wait, a Dave Malloy Black Swan musical?! Take my money!

Sonya Tayeh choreography sounds like perfection. This could be amazing.

I'll be super curious about Sonya Tayeh's choreography for Black Swan, but is this her first time directing? I'll admit that part gives me a little pause, but I'm VERY excited about what a Dave Malloy score for this could mean (not as familiar with Jen Silverman outside of The Roommate so also not sure how that would go). Either way, the score alone would be worth making a trip out to Boston for me!

Black Swan had a workshop last year, didn't it? Does anyone remember who was in that?

It should have been an opera, I fear.

Looks like Lena Hall, Amber Gray, and Rachel York were all a part of it. I’d assume Gray and Hall were the Portman/Kunis characters and maybe York was Ryder but unclear based on this post.

Black Swan reaches a level of straight camp that I'm not sure begs musicalizing.

Fascinated by what this stage production will be like. None of these actresses are exactly age appropriate for the those characters, nor are they dancers. Considering the almost impossible feat of finding musical theatre talent who can sing Dave Malloy and convincingly dance classical ballet, I wonder if the production utilizes some kind of dramatic device (a la - maybe these women represent these characters vocally, while ballet dancers represent them choreographically? )

I was also wondering about the extent of dance in the show (because I also don't think we've seen Sonya Tayeh do a more balletic style of movement?), and I found the audition notice for the workshop (ensemble) and here's what it said about the dance style:
SEEKING
Equity chorus dancers for workshop of BLACK SWAN.
ENSEMBLE (20s-E30s) with a very strong contemporary ballet foundation and the ability to sing confidently in a collective setting. We will be utilizing the balletic art form while fusing genres and other techniques to create the visual world of suspense and thriller. Welcoming all walks of life (however you identify!) who thrive on hyper physicality and a strong spirit for collaboration and work ethic!
PREPARATION
Please wear ballet shoes if you have them or socks, and clothing you are comfortable dancing in. Also, please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

Well I guess I got to go back to Boston. Don't want to miss a new Malloy and would be worried this won't show up again. Glad I saw Moby Dick there

I'm curious who sings this song - the parents? The lyrics aren't amazing but might work better in the context of the show. I have tickets for January, looking forward to it.

I’m very much looking forward to Black Swan. I connected a visit to Hello Dolly, a show I never tire of, at Ogunquit as well and Eureka Day at The Huntington.

Amber Iman seemingly playing the Vincent Cassel role is interesting. Also, surprised to not see Robyn Hurder here.

Robyn Hurder did not for a second cross my mind for this show. But Amber Iman is throwing me off. Vincent Cassel was obviously a huge part of the movie. I wonder how they'll spin this.

Robyn was involved in the workshops and had posted some IG stories about it somewhat recently... guess it just didn't work out for whatever reason.

Happens all the time without explanation. All good.

She may be booked on something we don't know.

Did not intend for the Robyn Hurder thing to be such a big deal. I had just been under the impression that she was attached to this. Carry on folks!
