THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES Reviews

Very little significant changes from Boston happened in the months before Broadway. I can give Schwartz more of a pass being brought on much later but the book writer and Arden were in cahoots together from the beginning. Arden believed in it to the point of producing as well."

I will say that in Boston, Act II was&nb

Yep. It was in the show on 10/14 and out by 10/17. Such a disappointment.

But I did take a look to see that you've been posting positively in favor of the show since March. If it really worked for you, that's great. It doesn't change the chorus of people here who feel the opposite about the show."

LMAO I promise I'm no shill but I do love Stephen Schwartz and Michael Arden (I saw OOTI

The other younger-skewing folks near me seemingly loved the show as much as I did and very much picked up on the eat-the-rich message; however, there were some UWS-old-money seemingly-liberal type Boomers near us who were all very much displeased and bored by the end of the show. I found that to be fascinating."

Saw last night's performance. I want to write something more in-depth later, but I must say that I was blown away by this show. I think Schwartz's score is exciting, the book incredibly pointed and scathing, and Michael Arden's direction and the performance he got out of Cheno to be a revelation. All of the folks whose takeaway was that the show is nothing more than "out of touch/pro MAGA/billionaire-worship" genuinely concern me regarding the state of intelligence and m

Very curious about the song list! Lindsey Ferrentino mentioned the show has two new/replacement songs since Boston

They've really shot themselves in the foot by keeping the real Jackie Siegel so close to this production in all of their marketing (she did an entire photoshoot with Cheno in the Times! WHY!). The show is far more damning of Jackie than they'd have any potential ticket buyers believe, and, sadly, this decision is not helping them shake off the "MAGA The Musical" feeling that folks have about it.

It's gonna take a miracle...

Love how she elegantly sidestepped any mention of Sean Combs during the Raisin section.

Do you think her mentioning a Shuffle Along cast recording is an easter egg or just wishful thinking? God, I PRAY we finally get a proper recording.

Love the idea of Drop Dead Gorgeous but also would be satisfied with a proper revival of Smile instead.

I've always thought a nice chunk of Robert Altman's filmography would translate well to stage. I'd lov

Her voice is also much better suited for the Ethel Merman roles, more so than Patti. And she has real life experience with Gypsy as her mother was a stage mom shoving her and Hunter on the stage. Does this mean that Dressing Them Up is, in fact, in the film? I recall that early reports from the film festival said this song was cut.

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES with Kristin Chenowith & F. Murray Abraham to open at St. James in November
 Mar 11 2025, 02:35:41 PM

I haven't seen the musical (as shown in my previous comment), but I really don't think the documentary is terrible source material. I haven't seen it in a few years but I remember it being a fascinating look at the financial crisis from the POV of America's (likely) most out-of-touch woman. That's not nothin'! What is terrible is Jackie Siegel's involvement in this musical. Without her involved, I'm sure they'd be able to actually ma

I'm so thankful that they took the time and money to open this show out-of-town before bringing it to New York. I am rooting for this big musical with an original score—so sad that this is such a rarity, but I have hopes that they can fix whatever was wrong in Boston. And if they can't, I'll take ten more original flops than one more jukebox musical.

I have no doubt she's probably serving for most of the movie, especially in the dance department. She definitely has a unique star quality, but I'm particularly curious about how she sounds on the title song.

It definitely seems like the type of song she would have the courage to attempt (she's been covering Barbra Streisand on various occasions for the past decade), but does it actually land?
