Encores 2027: You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown; Hallelujah, Baby!; Kiss of the Spider Woman

Apr 29, 2026 — 6:43:48 PM

Curious if they'll be using the tweaks Laurents made for the 2004 production of Hallelujah Baby! I'm so deeply intrigued by this show (largely because there's such scarce online literature regarding the original production). I've listened to the OBCR a handful of times but the score does little to explain the plot. For those who have seen it, what exactly is the point of having the characters' ages frozen in time? Is there some greater commentary on the (from what I believe to be largely unex...

Very little significant changes from Boston happened in the months before Broadway. I can give Schwartz more of a pass being brought on much later but the book writer and Arden were in cahoots together from the beginning. Arden believed in it to the point of producing as well."I will say that in Boston, Act II was abysmal and even the most critical of...

It doesn't change the chorus of people here who feel the opposite about the show."LMAO I promise I'm no shill but I do love Stephen Schwartz and Michael Arden (I saw OOTI probably five or six times) so I've been very much looking forw...

Saw last night's performance. I want to write something more in-depth later, but I must say that I was blown away by this show. I think Schwartz's score is exciting, the book incredibly pointed and scathing, and Michael Arden's direction and the performance he got out of Cheno to be a revelation. All of the folks whose takeaway was that the show is nothing more than "out of touch/pro MAGA/billionaire-worship" genuinely concern me regarding the state of intelligence and media literacy in this ...

They've really shot themselves in the foot by keeping the real Jackie Siegel so close to this production in all of their marketing (she did an entire photoshoot with Cheno in the Times! WHY!). The show is far more damning of Jackie than they'd have any potential ticket buyers believe, and, sadly, this decision is not helping them shake off the "MAGA The Musical" feeling that folks have about it. It's gonna take a miracle...

Love how she elegantly sidestepped any mention of Sean Combs during the Raisin section. Do you think her mentioning a Shuffle Along cast recording is an easter egg or just wishful thinking? God, I PRAY we finally get a proper recording.

I also think a musical adaptation of Three Women could be inte...
