Any regular audience member caught FaceTiming during a performance would likely be removed from the venue.
1) Not worth the obnoxious caps
2) Gayle’s appearance was like, three seconds? Who really cares that much.
Look around. This is not a big deal.

They would be asked to stop, please settle down.

ok so for something like this cameo was publicized, I doubt a. the person facetiming her to see was the only person to do it, but they also had permission to so thats a moot point...but also when Ellen went on as a nurse in Promises Promises or I think it was Hoda went on for a brief cameo in Aladdin, not only did they filmed the moment and aired it, but, the audience went crazy over the cameo, and for sure people also were snapping pictures or videos of the moment as well.
it's not that serious my dude - it was also done with permission. It's posted RIGHT HERE on the show's Instagram. She wasn't on Facetime the entire show.

Why was this publicity stunt even done? What’s wrong with The Lion King’s ticket sales?

They have done this for Disney shows (and others) for over a decade now. It's just a puff piece, like a performance on a talk show. Except its cheaper.
