Hamilton Cancellation Line

Mar 15, 2015 — 4:55:39 PM

Just to give an update, for the matinee yesterday, they sold 3 tickets. The first pair went to someone who got there somewhere after 9:00, and then there was a single that went to someone who got there sometime after 10:00. The man in charge whom we spoke with said he'd never seen anything like this. He said there really was no pattern for good times to line up or when there might be more tickets available. That being said, it was by far the most pleasant "rush"-esque experience I've ever had...

Has anyone been lately? Are the odds still pretty good?

Fly By Night at Playwrights Horizons

May 17, 2014 — 5:36:36 AM

I was also there last night and totally agree! I left thinking this could really turn into something special. Very much enjoyed the score and performances, and there's a delightful mix of humor with attention to some big questions about who we are vs. who we want to be and how much control we have over our lives at the end of the day. There's a line in Hedwig about "the geography of human contact" that seemed at the core of what this show explores, without being too heavy handed or artificial...

Lotto/SRO Advice for Hedwig

May 11, 2014 — 8:34:58 AM

I did SRO last night, and the staff (especially the house manager, whom I can now accurately identify!) were nothing but lovely. They let us sit under the awning while it was raining earlier, and while we had to move and stand around the time the first lotto was setting up, it was not a big deal. Someone asked about leaning - yes, in most of the line, you can lean against the wall. Also, there was an older person in line, and a staff member specifically said it was fine for him to sit on the ...

Oh, sorry, false assumption on my part - I don't know his title, then.

Hedwig Advice

May 5, 2014 — 8:51:34 AM

I said this in another thread as well, but yes, they are being super strict about no sitting on the sidewalk outside the theater. Their policy and/or enforcement have changed, though, as in previews I brought a small folding chair a couple of times and was fine until they started setting up the barricades for the line to enter the theater an hour before the house opens. So it was a surprise - and, honestly, kind of a pain - on Saturday night, because that's 4-5+ hours of standing for people w...

10PM Saturday Hedwig: Compared to

May 4, 2014 — 7:51:58 PM

Agreed, I really thought the difference was in the audience and not necessarily in the performances! There was another "Neil!" shout-out, and NPH had a pretty seamless reply … I guess they worked that out after all the press last time.

Lotto/SRO Advice for Hedwig

May 4, 2014 — 7:49:10 PM

Yikes, I didn't know they weren't always selling all the SRO tickets even after opening! I will also say that the house manager is getting stricter about not allowing any sitting on the sidewalk. I still think it's totally worth it, but you should be prepared to stand not only for the show but for the hours you're in line as well (it hasn't always been this way, but I understand that it's the staff's prerogative and wouldn't want someone to show up in terrible shoes or something). Also, there...

Hedwig SRO

May 2, 2014 — 8:58:39 AM

Thanks, okiekat! This might not have been on your radar, but did you see people in the line who were just there for the 10:00? I'd like to try for that without trying for the 7:00 and am wondering if I can squeeze in a matinee before heading over. And yes, I definitely wish they would invest in a megaphone for the lotto. With those crowds, it's hard to hear even if you've moved over for the SRO line to the lotto group.

Hedwig SRO

Apr 30, 2014 — 10:51:14 PM

I was there tonight, and the rain did not seem to be much of a deterrent! The majority of people who got tickets arrived between 4:30-5, I think, so yes, 5:00 is a gamble. They sold 24 tickets (though they told someone in the line earlier in the afternoon that they would sell "15, plus or minus 5"), and the manager was really nice about letting us move the line under the awning and out of the rain and selling them to us a few minutes early.

Thanks for the Les Mis update! I had been wondering if it had gotten any better.

Hedwig Reviews

dschnookie, I've been Shazaam'ing them, too! I love that Marquee Moon song now, I think partially because I started to recognize it as the last song before the band comes out. Unrelated - has anyone done SRO since opening? Is it a madhouse?

Hedwig Seating ?

Apr 23, 2014 — 9:13:36 AM

I've been in seats around there, and they're great. You can't really see the drummer (I think A5 is marked partial view), but being that close compensates. And it's not like those seats are cheap, either (I splurged on one and got another in the lotto), so it certainly wouldn't be worth it to me personally to pay for premium seats just to be a few feet over.

Hedwig Reviews

Freeman5: I absolutely love the score, so it sounds like there's an element of personal preference here. As far as what I found moving about the show, for me it comes down to breaking down the "love story" mold. **SPOILERS** In so many cases, the story isn't over until someone finds "true love". Someone independent is considered to be kidding themselves, and happiness and fulfillment are contingent upon falling in love and having someone fall in love with you. Hedwig shows the darker side of ...

The Hurt Locker playbills are hilarious! Somebody had a seriously good time writing all the copy inside … and the ad on the back. :)

Hedwig SRO and or Lotto

Apr 18, 2014 — 8:29:10 PM

Yeah, the SRO situation is going to be different after opening, as there will be more tickets available than there have been in previews but - I'm sure - also more people wanting them. So far, it seems like 3:30/4:00 has been the safest time to line up for an 8:00 curtain. Lotto this week was 200+ people, but the night I went, they sold almost 40 lotto tickets. I'm also curious about opening night, though I'm 99% sure they don't do either.

Thought people interested in Hedwig might like to know that NPH, John Cameron Mitchell, and Stephen Trask are doing a TimesTalk about the show on May 20th at CUNY Grad Center. Tickets are $40 (but ended up being closer to $50 w/fees). More info: http://timestalks.com/detail-event.php?event=neil_patrick_harris_john_cameron_mitchell_stephen_trask
