re: re: lipsynching Jan 6 2004, 05:37:21 AM
whoever said that hairspray's *you can't stop the beat* has a track was correct...because everyone onstage (including the leads) are dancing (full out) they use the track because that song is so hard to understand and doesn't sound good if it is not fully supported and articulated (which is difficult while doing that big dance number). It makes sense though, considering that 3 of the principle characters are overweight (tracy, edna, and motormouth maybelle) and one is like, 70 (wilbur).

re: Songs.... over and over and over Jan 6 2004, 05:18:48 AM
here's a list of all the songs i am officially obsessed with...there are quite a few.
*popular* and *defying gravity* from wicked, just to be cliche *gimme gimme* from millie *everyone's a little bit racist* and *it sucks to be me* from avenue q *rose's turn* from gypsy *without love* and *welcome to the 60's* from hairspray *a call from the vatican* and *very unusual way* from nine *little shop of horrors* and *ya never know* from little shop, because the three urchins

wicked will probably get best musical because it's the big one...but it had a lot of flaws in its book and its score- i love the show but the story is really strange (the book's plotline was better) and the music was great but there were some less-than-great moments. hopefully avenue q will get score and book...and i think kristen will get best actress, considering half the reviews say that she carries the show. the same with hugh jackman, i mean, they're planning on shutting down the show tem

re: re: re: re: re: The Wiz Jan 6 2004, 04:49:00 AM
i think someone new needs to play dorothy...dequina moore = perfect. and they can use the more well-knowns as the three companions or the wiz or one of the witches. but jason raize is too young for the tinman (he's supposed to be older and more mature) corey reynolds would be perfect as the scarecrow, and lilias would be a wonderful evilline. but sheryl lee ralph would be more of a glinda than an addaperle...the script calls for glinda to have class and such, whereas addaperle is like, random

i saw little shop...i thought kerry was wonderful, myself...she actually made me BELIEVE audrey, she wasn't as ridiculous as other people who have played her, she actually was plausibly a real person.
but the show was DEFINITELY stolen by crystal, ronette, and chiffon...those three girls are all amazing singers, they're hilarious, and they just kept the show going. they are my idols, lol

bleck.
whoever said that marissa jaret winokur shouldn't have been on broadway needs to go away.
besides the fact that she is cute as a button, i saw hairspray twice with her in it and she had the whole audience captivated and recieved standing ovations both nights.
and besides, she beat bernadette peters for a tony. that's something.
