Was able to catch this production earlier this week, and it was a truly sensational experience. I was a fan of the score and caught the Broadway production in previews (did the standing room in the orchestra in the mosh pit) and felt like the show itself just didn't work in that space. The score has some really good songs - the original demo they released for it with "Building Momentum" and "So Much in Common" made a few of my musical theater playlists that year.Here's the bottom line, if you don't like the show, don't produce it, act it in it, or see it when it's mounted near you. Find a show you do like and support it.

It's really not that unusual for an independently-financed film to not have distribution right after the world premiere, especially one that has a higher price tag. The subject matter here also complicates sales given how few buyers there are now in Hollywood, and those that are left are mostly sucking up to the guy in the White House, which would keep them far away from this. Really curious to see the NY Critics takes on "Operation Mincemeat" in a few months. It was one of my favorite shows in a long time on Broadway or the West End when I caught it with the original cast who are transferring with it, and hope the critics can see through how "British" it is. Such a clever, fun, and well-done new musical from my vantage point, but who knows what people on Broadway will think...

Saw the show in La Jolla and Idina certainly gives a dynamic performance (and the entire cast, Michael Park especially impressed) but the show itself was a total meh. Felt like half an idea with a very underwhelming score. The set design/projections that Jason Ardizzone-West did were completely stunning, but on the whole, this did not feel like a show that should be headed to Broadway to me. I hope they prove me wrong!

Caught this phenomenal production over the weekend and can't sing its praises enough! Mincemeat is a bona-fide commercial hit (unlike several of the past Olivier winners who didn't transfer), but it's definitely also an intimate show.I saw it a few months back and think Broadway audiences would eat it up if presented the right way. Agreed with the general sentiment on the floor standing tickets - did it this week and had a great time for about 20 minutes. After that, the execution of the shifting set and everyone moving around made it hard to really enjoy the show itself. It's a very interesting piece of art, but as a Broadway show, it left me wanting a fair amount. Not something I would really recommend to people who aren't die-hard theater lovers.

This has been rumored about in LA Theater Circles for a while - very sad to see the official announcement. It really has never been more challenging for non-profit theater companies across the country - anyone who is in a position to, please donate to your favorite local theater company!
