Operation Mincemeat planning Broadway transfer.

This show is fabulous.  Was glad to read a transfer is in the works .  I do wonder how some of the British humor will work or if some adapting will take place.

Not much of a surprise, ATG is behind it so this might play one of their Broadway houses.

I really hope it does! When I saw it this past summer, I talked with the cast afterward (3 of them are the writers) they all said that they were trying to get it across the pond. Glad it might just be happening! This show was just spectacular! Glad it’s getting all the love and selling out in London! I think if they market it well, it could have a good limited run on Broadway!

I know ATG runs Lyric (Harry Potter) and the Hudson (Merrily we roll along.) if this does come across the pond, I’m guessing it’ll be at the Hudson after Merrily finishes? I was hoping Merrily would extend to July for Tony Award season.

Agreed! I just left London and ended up seeing this 3 times while I was there. Funny, smart and heart-warming. 'Dear Bill' had me in tears. The whole cast was fantastic; the way they all switch between characters and genders is astounding. Shout out to Holly Sumpton as the understudy for Montagu; extremely talented and wonderfully charming. One (or rather three) of the best nights at the theatre I've had in ages.

Remember they also have the five Jujamcyn houses now. Kerr could be a possibility after Hadestown closes.

Can't say I loved it. There's potential for something really good here but it needs work. Starting with the artwork. Nobody gets it. I've shown it to people who work in the business and they have no idea that's supposed to be Hitler. Apparently the company thinks it's hilarious. They're in for a rude surprise if it comes to NY. The sound mix when I saw it was awful. The vocals during the songs sounded so flat with the audio, I couldn't make out 1/4 of the words especially when many of  the songs have "Hamilton"-like quick rapping in it. The number at the top of Act II I'm sure they think is outrageous and funny. I won't spoil it except 1) it's been done before and 2) it's not as clever. But it does have some good bones on it. I'm afraid the creatives don't want to do anything with it. And with only a cast of 5 and no stars, it would vanish in the Hudson.

It's gotten great reviews from American critics already. Peter Marks, Helen Shaw, Rob Weinert-Kendt, all loved it. It was Helen Shaw's fave

There’s plenty of talk but nothing confirmed as of yet. I know the cast are hoping for a transfer (Jak Malone said as much on a recent Insta Q&A) I do wonder what theatre would be the best fit. Having seen it in London, to me this feels like a show that would benefit from a house under 1000 seats.

I know ATG has its hooks in but I can see it fitting ideally in the Kerr, American Airlines, Music Box, Booth, Broadhurst or Golden. The Fortune only has 423 seats and a high grand circle.

The current West End run is now booking through April 2024, so I can’t imagine this will come this season. I feel like a limited prestige season in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 would be the smart move and also give time for some shows to free up.

ATG were also involved with Parade, so it's not entirely out of the question that they look at venues other than their own

I love this show. No clue how a show that is SO British will play in the states, but good on them for giving it a go.


But Broadway seems to be getting an inordinate amount of West End transfers lately. Soon enough, you won't be able to tell if you're in NYC or London.

Saw this last week on a trip to London and absolutely loved it. While it certainly is very British, every American I’ve spoken to has loved it. Given that the cast is only 5 people and it’s a single set for the most part, it feels like a quite economical production for Broadway. Put it in a small theatre (golden, booth, etc.) for a limited run and extend if it’s a hit.

The dominance of ATG has given me so many conflicted feelings. They have been pretty great about working with good directors and their marketing is probably the best on Broadway and London. They must be doing something right as far as creative work is concerned if people like Jamie Lloyd have partnered up with them. The only issue I take with is their pricing scheme, and the notion that we can only get good work by paying their absurd prices. Some of that pricing seems to be reflected in how much budget some of these directors have been getting. But the London pricing for Mincemeat is truly absurd, a show cheap to run and developed in non-commercial orgs and many other smaller venues.

Well, hopefully, we will see more great productions from the West End in NYC. London Theatre, without a doubt, is incredible!

The prices have gone up because the demand is so high that every performance has been a sell out, even the odd Tuesday matinees, and they keep extending.

When I went back in July, the prices I saw seem to max out at 89.50, and I only paid 39.50, but since I’ve gone, it’s extended twice. It’s the sleeper hit of London.
