I think this is one of a few shows to close by Labor Day. Some Like It Hot, Neil Diamond, And Cottage have been bleeding money so all if not 1 will post closing notices this week. the producers know that September is a rough month so they will close up shop soon.

Why not just forward the timeline. Some of those you mentioned can still portray the roles. Just have it be 2023 rather than 1971. Would be very exciting to have octagenarians portray the roles. Granted “Whos That Woman would have to be simplified but have the “Ghosts” do most of the dancing But how thrilling it would be see 14 old dames descend the staircase in “Beautiful Girls”. I disliked Danny Burstein in this-he wasn’t strong enough-too much of a teddy bear and I’m afraid Jason would have the same affect on me. I never believed the villagers would see Danny as their leader.

The world is filled with super talented artists. Sandra Guida who played Velma in the original production in Buenos Aires passed away a few weeks ago at age 60. She was a unique talent and revered in her country. There are some videos on YouTube of her performance. And she was incredible. One of the best..

It is interesting that people either really like this show or really hate it. The cast gets overall good reviews except for the leading lady. It is either the way the part is written and directed or the woman playing her is lacking in the acting department. Raves about her voice. But evidently she sings too many ballads. I’m just commenting on what I have read. most say that there is way too much tap dancing which could get on ones nerves.

I loved the original and detested the remake. The cast in the original was brilliant and stunk in the remake. If anyone is offended by how gays are depicted then you are in denial.

I find it interesting that Shubert, Nederlander, and Jujamcyn are all producers. Is this unusual that all 3 theater owners put money into a show? And they must need a lot of back up $ if Mariah just joined the team. I guess that they must have lost over a million dollars so far. Doesn’t look good for a much anticipated musical.

This show needs to sell plenty of tickets to survive or it may meet the same fate as Tootsie and Doubtfire. Maybe people are over cross dressing musicals or are over woke themes. I thought the performance on the parade was just ok. Not wow. The choreography seemed too “swing” and not of the decade it is meant to be. The reviews on line are not all stellar so it will be interesting to see what the critics say.

I heard that they are building a ferry for Leah for the “Parade” number. as she sails off stage left. They need to add more people on stage not more songs.

Maggie Flynn has some fine tunes and orchestrations and power ballads . Why Can’t t I Walk Away was a very popular audition song for men in the 70s and 80s. It may still be.

The director and designers look like they took some risks rather than relying on the brilliant Hal Prince and Larry Fuller staging. And it looks impressive for an Encores show. I like the idea of dressing Eva in white costumes throughout the show. A similar scene change to Carrie occurred during the final scene change in another flop-Nefertiti. The giant staircase unfolded from the rafters just as the one in Carrie did. Very spectacular. And like Carrie, it had some beautiful music.
