re: What's necessarily wrong with musicals adapted from movies? Dec 15 2006, 12:12:42 AM
^Haha, this makes me think of the time a friend of mine wrote a Harry Potter musical and put it on at our college. It was very, very copyright infringing production... Very.

Disregarding the fact that the major problem is usually that they aren't done well... I think its the same thing that happens with actors: if you started in theater and moved to films you get a certain amount of respect, and if you're a successful film actor who then goes and does theater you have a very, very hard time getting any respect (warranted or not.) There's just something about art moving from a smaller more organic venue into a larger more mainstream one... and not the rever

Touch Me is my favorite song on that album... Skylar rocks. [MORITZ] Still, you must admit, with the two anatomies, it truly is daunting, I mean how everything might… [MELCHIOR] Measure up? [MORITZ] …Not that I’m saying I wouldn't, I wouldn't want to not, would ever not want to. [MELCHIOR] Moritz? [MORITZ] I have to go. [MELCHIOR] Moritz wait!

A funny moment from the q&a: Audience Member: So, how many songs were left on the cutting room floor from this show? Duncan: An entire album's worth. Multiple Audience Members: ....When can we hear them?! Very cute.

I have no idea if she is out for the show tonight or not, she may have just wanted to rest her voice until the performance and skip on the apple event...

Krysta Rodriguez was in for Lauren. She has a really beautiful voice... but there's a very unique quality that Lauren has which I really think makes that song. They did mention that she was having a "bronchial thing" going on. I know that she moved from LA, maybe she's adjusting to the weather here, haha. I know that she's been a singer for quite some time, so I would assume she knows how to take care of her voice. Oh also, they mentioned that at her audition for SA in LA she sang "Som

I went... they did "Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind", "Whispering", and "The Mirror-Blue Night" with all major cast members except for Lauren Pritchard who was out. The cast had to perform the songs quickly and head uptown to do the show. After they left the q&a began. The cast members were lovely as always, having fun looking adorable and joking around. Lea Michele was VERY cute when leaving the stage, she looked at Duncan and he said "okay, go to work!" and she was like "okay, I gotta go

I agree, he has one of those live voices that is just plain chill inducing. I have a feeling (and a hope) we'll be hearing from him for a while.

Skylar: Probably the best showcase of his voice is at the end of Touch Me, he takes the last verse and a lot of the runs are his. He also sings the "days at the piano with my teacher and her breasts..." verse in The Bitch of Living. He does have a really good voice. Really nice kid too.

If I'm remembering correctly (and I might not be because honestly when I saw the show in previews I was pretty much just in a trance out of total awe and love for it) the Act I closer is "I Believe."

re: What kinds of 'mature themes' in SPRING AWAKENING? Dec 12 2006, 01:38:11 AM
The nudity is a bare breast as well as groff's butt both in the sex scene (which is actually played twice in the show). As far as I was concerned none of the "mature" scenes in the show were anything but tasteful. Mostly, I just felt that for such a young cast it was an extremely brave piece of work. I saw the show with my mother and aunt (I'm 21), both of whom are very conservative and they loved it. I think seeing it with a parent is a really valuable experience, actually.
