Sally Field this week said she starts rehearsal for a play in the fall if it doesn’t fall thru. Anyone hear any rumors of which play?
I remember someone said she passed on August County.

This is earth shattering news for me. A line item has been added to my budget.

there was a reading directed by David Cromer few years ago.
Would love to see it will be produced!

Oh my God if she would play Violet the family matriarch I would just die! Would Julia Roberts be too old to play Barbara again? We can have a Steel Magnolias mini reunion. Sorry don’t mind me. I’m a Steel Magnolias fanatic. I hope they would revive August soon. If you have Sally Field attached to it - chefs kiss! just such perfect casting. One of the best plays of all time!

She mentions it here:
“I'm supposed to go into rehearsals for a play at the end of summer. I still have my head down, and I'm always hoping to get better.”

Very cool. Curious where it’ll be. The last time she was onstage was in London so it’s not necessarily a New York play.

She said in another interview this week that she had been going back and forth to NYC working on this play, which makes me think workshops for a new play as opposed to a revival.
Also, it's funny the mention of Julia in this thread because she mentioned in a few interviews last year when promoting After The Hunt she wants to get back to the stage.

I like Julia and I'd love to see her back on stage. I agree that it wasn't the right play for her to make her Broadway debut in, but I wouldn't write her off based on Three Days of Rain alone.

Julia was also a great Barbara in my memory of the movie. She’s not the casting that doesn’t work.

I was in the minority of those who liked The Glass Menagerie. Man, she was good. Dragging the wheelchair up the stairs. immediately captivating. I'd watch her read the phone book.

It would actually quite wonderful to see her go balls to the wall in Oh Mary. I'd love to see her reach into some of her Sally-isms as Mary. Scrunched face, murmuring, repeating herself. Give us a little Sybil. "The people, the people, the people."

Oh, she was amazing in that revival. No regrets about seeing that big swing of a production.

Saw the most recent episode of Hacks and immediately thought “Cherry Jones would be a fantastic Violet Weston.”

Right there with you. Absolutely devastating. Sally Field and Cherry Jones were such diametrically opposite Amandas, and both left me wrung out.
Keeping my fingers crossed it’s A:OC and we get a Sally Field/Carrie Coon cage match.

Laurie Metcalf (original Steppenwoolf member) would also slay as Violet Weston after Salesman wraps up! Though I’m sure she wants to take a much needed break!

Sally is very good in her new Netflix movie. Not many people could have made that work. Highly recommended for sentimental folks. She handles a monologue beautifully.

I enjoyed her in "Remarkably Bright Creatures", too. I thought Lewis Pullman did a great job in his, role, as well.
She's been making the rounds of talk shows to promote the movie's debut on Netflix. I especially liked her banter with Stephen Colbert (here and here).
