FROZEN closes on Broadway

May 15, 2020 — 8:27:11 PM

This article nails it on the head in terms of audience for a show like FROZEN. I am certain that the board at Disney has enacted cuts throughout their portfolio. They have been hit really hard. 1+2?https://www-vulture-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.vulture.com/amp/2020/04/how-can-broadway-recover-from-this-pandemic.html

Renovations While Theatres Are Closed

May 5, 2020 — 8:11:54 PM

sparksatmidnight said: "If they didn't spend the money while they were *earning* money, they certainly won't be spending them now or leading up to the reopening. New seats accross the board would be nice, though."Agree 100%.Theaters would only renovate if they were forced to do so. If owners were inclined to spend money on seats, they would have done so by now. You could replace all of the seats during a load-in in most houses! If they cared about crappy bathrooms they could be done.i believe...

Cuomo Snubs Broadway

Apr 30, 2020 — 1:48:15 PM

I think that all of this talk about the optics or the politics misses the forest for the trees. It is somewhat of a fact at this point that Broadway theater re-openings are extremely problematic on many levels and, as such, are a long way off. Many many articles all over the media landscape talk about Fall 2021 or even beyond as a more realistic projected timeline for having larger gatherings of people. There is no argument that Broadway represents a ton of economic benefit to NYC and also is a...

BILLY PORTER... Well Done!

Feb 25, 2019 — 4:00:49 PM

At least he didn’t do what Menounos did to Bradley Cooper... gee... you did everything on this film and you still won’t be winning anything. Awkward. I think that given that Billy is new to this sort of format he did an amazing job. Particularly liked his interaction with Spike Lee and he did make a joke about how it isn’t about him knowing of course that he was FABULOUS ... I guess the Jonny Weir of the Oscars!

Wow... A STAR IS BORN snub?!

Jan 7, 2019 — 1:50:07 AM

Am I the only one who thinks that A STAR IS BORN was a much stronger film than BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY? Surprised at the Golden Globe win for the Queen flick although I do love Queen...

After Show Musical Bar Options for Dad and 16yo?

Jan 1, 2019 — 9:57:53 PM

You won’t find a gimmick like singing servers or dueling pianos but a nice place for food and drink after theatre favored by actors and theatre workers is Glass House Tavern on 47th. Right in the heart of the theatre district too. The owner is a friend and I have been going since they opened.... http://glasshousetavern.com/

Maybe what people want is the movie translated to the stage - It is only musical theatre entertainment after all, not social commentary!

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/29/18

Jul 30, 2018 — 3:53:30 PM

dramamama611 said: Theaters have contracts with shows, so why would they even consider kicking them out? It would be foolish of them to do so. (And illegal, which is why you sometimes hear about a buy-out.)Mama... typically contracts between theatre owners and productions include something known in the biz as a "stop clause" which stipulates that if a show isn't making enough money for X amount of time, the theatre can nullify the deal. This has happened and is typical in a situation where a ...

LORD OF THE DANCE to play a limited Broadway run

Sep 21, 2015 — 11:47:06 PM

According to someone I spoke with, the London production didn't have Flatley performing at all other than on video and all of the music and singing (and tapping) was prerecorded. No live musicians and singers lip-syncing. Sounds like fun to me...
