re: quick Les Mis Philly review

Jul 9, 2008 — 4:48:16 PM

peter schmitz was never the booming offstage voice. it was originally going to be constantine germanicos, now it is nick saverine, except on tuesdays when he's valjean. then it's his external understudy, steve pollack (NOT steve pacek). the bridge has not changed. paul jumps off it in the dark, and it flies out, unless he is injured, which he was the other night (nothing serious). also, it's jeff COON, not coons.

mary is extremely talented and most likely the understudy, but dawn spence is a well-known english actress from what i understand. and that's what makes this company so awesome...the ensemble is full of folks who usually play roles...very strong actor-singers.

cumpsty is still out. i think he may be gone permenently because there was a new insert announcing paul schoeffler as a new jules/greenburg understudy. not sure what it all means. LOVED the show, by the way. so unbelievably beautiful. evans and russell are totally brilliant.

re: Do You Think People Hate Idina Because of Her Fans?

Apr 18, 2008 — 4:29:42 PM

i don't hate her, but i'm not a fan. she has an uninteresting sound, and that baby voice affectation thing she does is just irritating. marginal actress. i just kind of don't get it. oh, and she was beyond bad at the tonys for wicked. wow. not to mention her fans. cringe-worthy.

i saw a really innovative production of superstar in austin, tx last year. it was mexican catholic themed, with a lot of dia de los muertos imagery. mary looked like frida kahlo...and herod was a lucho libre wrestler! it was so friggin cool.

re: Lanning and Miller (CIVIL WAR)

Apr 15, 2008 — 11:52:07 PM

keith works but has stayed kind of under the radar. is is a great actor, i really enjoy his work. lanning is an absolutely amazing singer/songwriter, and seems to only do musical theatre occasionally. he is currently starring in "mask" at pasadena playhouse. and both are awesome guys all around. not sure about gene miller...he was part of a musical group called "shiloh" back in the day.

re: Wait... More Regional Les Miz?

starbux...it will be worth it. the walnut cast is off the hook! hugh panaro, josh young, jessica bogart, christina dicicco, jeff coon, mary martello, scott greer, etc....

re: A Few Questions RE: REEFER MADNESS

i saw it off bway several years back and absolutely loved it, but tickets sales were dismal and reviews were horrendous. i think after the success of the showtime movie it might have a shot if it were revived, though.
