So I'm far from a tween girl and I adore Idina Menzel's new album, especially "Gorgeous". I thought she was wonderful in Wicked and See What I Wanna See as well, but I wonder. I've searched her on the web and her fans are CRAZY. Do you think people hate her because of her fanbase? How do you think she can escape the tween set?
I don't think most people on this board hate her at all, it's the fans they hate, but rather than make fun of them we just shout "EYEDEEENAH" and such.
No, people hate CLAY because of his fans. People hate Idina because of her voice.
(Just kidding, I couldn't resist)

i don't hate her, but i'm not a fan. she has an uninteresting sound, and that baby voice affectation thing she does is just irritating. marginal actress. i just kind of don't get it. oh, and she was beyond bad at the tonys for wicked. wow.
not to mention her fans. cringe-worthy.

IMO Idina is amazing. But again, thats my IMO and I dont try to FORCE it on others like MANY of her fans do. So yea, she does get sorta bad rep from some of her fans. Like seriously, on that-site-which-shall-not-be-named
you can not watch a single *beep* without one of her annoying fans popping up going "Idina is SO MUCH BETTER. EYEDINA FOR LIFE"
But some people dont like her cuz of the Tony performence, which even me, a huge Idina fan, must say was bad. I've seen her live tho many times and recordings dont do her justice.
So to answer the thread question...I do think her fans have a effect on people's opinion on her.
I hate Idina because of her voice AND her fans.
I think you're onto something. I love Idina, but her fans are insane.
I like Idina. Her fans scare me. I can see people wanting to disassociate themselves from her work because they don't want to put up with her insane fanbase, but I think it's silly -- and unfair -- for people to "hate" HER because they think her fans are nuts.
I don't hate her. I just don't like her voice. Her rendition of 'Not A Day Goes By' is one of the most excruciatingly painful things I've ever heard. But I don't hate her. She seems nice enough.
I honestly had stayed away from her because of the fan hype but her new album is quite wonderful.
I don't hate her at all. Her voice is nice and she sounds all right on the recordings of Wicked and SWIWTS. I wasn't really impressed with her perfomance in RENT film, but I certainly don't hate her. I think the problem for many people (myself included) is that they get turned off by her rabid, insane fans who proclaim her to be some kind of a theatre goddess and who continue to annoyingly rave and rave about her.
I don't hate Idina because of her fans.
I hate her because she's a horrific singer and a stale actress.

I don't hate Idina or her fans by any means. I actually love Idina and I really don't pay attention to her fans. I have better things to do with my time...lol.
Like be on these boards at all times of the day...haha.
I'm a huge Idina fan, but not a fangirl. I think she's very talented and I do hate that her immature fans make her look bad.
I hate her fans, but I also dislike her. It's her voice, I think. She's also a bland actress. And Wicked made her famous.
I like her. I would have purchased her CD but I wasn't crazy about the material chosen for it.

ugh I hate her fans...I mean some of her fans are nice but like...jeeze one time one of them said "Idina cant crack...her voice is immune to it" LOL
Idk, IMO her voice is great. its not the best sounding voice ever but idk, it holds alot of power and emotion to it.
At Wicked recently during intermission, this girl in the row behind me was explaining to the woman next to her how the original Elphaba Idina was better than Stephanie and the best Elphaba ever. (LYKE OMGZ!) - After watching Stephanie J. Block just defy gravity, how can you still think that?

^Its all personal opinion. Sometimes IMO SJB does beat Idina in DG, other times, Idina beats SJB. Its not a fact Idina is better...the girl (tho annoyingly) was expressing a dim-witted opinion (I agree tho, SJB is a powerhouse, its hard to say she doesnt give Idina a run for her money)
i think to a degree. Not because of her fans so much as of how they have portrayed her and the contrast.
I was recently talking to someone about this. For my stage makeup class I had to do my makeup as a famous person and I chose her and I was saying "although now I say 'she's not as gorgeous and amazing as everyone makes her out to be' if no one said anything i would probably be saying something like 'she has a distinct look and she's actually kind of pretty'"
I can't stand her at all. Something about her bugs the sh*t out of me.
Yes, Idina is talented, but compared to people she's worked with on stage, she's mediocre at best. I hate it when people act like she is the most talented thing since Ethel Merman. That's what bugs me.
She has an odd acting style which pushes people away. I personally like her. Not the best thing to ever hit broadway but she's certainly not bad...
Idina has such a strong fan base because of Wicked. Wicked was enormously popular and I'm willing to bet that if Shoshana or Stephanie or even Eden was the original Elphaba, they would have as strong of a fan base. It's Idina fans of Wicked hear on the album and it's therefore Idina's show. Idina's strong personality also makes fans even more rabid and obsessed with her.
I don't hate Idina because of her fans because I can see right through them. I used to be an Idina fan, but now that I am much more acquainted with theatre, I recognize that she isn't the best. I respect her for what she does, but she certainly isn't one of my favorites. Though her acting is fine, her singing gets screamy at parts. I can hear that her voice is beautiful when it is soft (especially on her album) so I think she just needs to work on the tone of her voice.
