re: If your Favorite Television Show was a Musical, who would you Cast?

May 24, 2009 — 12:21:48 PM

"THE GOlDEN GIRLS! Angela Lansbury-Dorothy any other ideas?" As great as it would be to have Angela Lansbury play Bea's role, she's too old. I'd envision GOLDEN GIRLS casting to go something like -- Dorothy - Joanna Gleason Blanche - Marin Mazzie Rose - Christine Ebersole Sophia - Angela Lansbury

re: Impossible dream roles for our great performers...

Once I cast Les Mis entirely with performers who are either very old or dead right now. I don't remember most of them... but a few were Howard Keel (or was it Alfred Drake?) - Javert Judy Garland - Fantine Kathryn Grayson or Julie Andrews - Cosette Frank Sinatra - Marius I may be a little skeptical of my Sinatra casting ... although he did play dorky/adorable/lovebird roles very well back in the day (see "Anchors Aweigh" or "On the Town" or any of those), and he certainly had the voice.

YES! I was surprised that Audra hadn't gotten more mentions up until this point. She has the most gorgeous voice I've ever heard on a woman.

Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti, Marin Mazzie ... Josefina Scaglione. Edit: Rebecca Luker, although I'm not sure if she's been in anything recently.

re: Hugh Panaro: Really?

Haha! This thread made my day, it really did. Hugh's a very handsome guy, in my opinion, but those shots are out-of-this-world hammy.

re: What's your favourite musical?

It changes so often... Les Mis is a sentimental favorite. Kiss Me, Kate is my favorite comedy. South Pacific is probably the most all-around brilliant show I know, West Side Story runs a close second. Ragtime is my favorite score.

re: The Best Male Voice on Broadway

Of people who are still alive and performing? Stokes. It's not even close, in my opinion. Not the best male voice on Broadway ever, but if you ask me nobody else these days can touch him.

Baker/Baker's Wife: I love the idea of Matthew Broderick and Marin Mazzie! I think it's fabulous, and they'd be fabulous. Witch: Ruthie Henshall Cinderella: ...I'm gonna second Audra McDonald here. She's in her thirties, yeah, but I think she'd be really amazing. Jack: Andrew Keenan-Bolger Little Red: Celia Keenan-Bolger Cinderella's Prince/Wolf: Brian Stokes Mitchell Rapunzel's Prince: Norm Lewis Mysterious Man/Narrator: John Cullum Jack's Mother: Judy Kuhn Rapunzel: Katie Rose Clarke Stepmo...

re: [ACTOR] Should So Play [ROLE!]

I agree with Schmerg when she said Mann for the Judge, if he has the requisite low range. He looks the part, he just might sound too .. tenory. Philip Quast as Sweeney Audra McDonald as basically anyone in ITW (I can see her being an amazing Witch, Baker's Wife, or Cinderella) Brian Stokes Mitchell as Macheath in Threepenny, Cinderella's Prince in ITW, Agwe in Once On This Island Aaron Lazar as Tony in WSS (Heck yes.) Michael Arden as Dickon in the Secret Garden (in a real live production) an...
