Probably one of the best performances of that extremely difficult song, sung in an impossible setting, I have ever heard. And she looked gorgeous.
No?
I am just sorry they preempted the rest of her concert here in Chicago to show some silly football game.

And she didn't riff the hell out of it and slaughter it. You could still tell it was the National Anthem for once!
It was pre-recorded but still amazing.

Exactly. Her performance enhanced the song, it did not ruin it with the look what I can do pyrotechnics of other so-called singer.
I know I am going to get yelled at for this... but didn't it look like she wasn't actually singing the last note (lip syncing)? I know she is a great performer and she doesn't seem like a vocalist that would, but for some reason he mouth movements didn't seem to follow the sounds that appeared to be coming out of her...???
Oops, just realized this should be on the OT board.
It was prerecorded? It was hard to tell. It does not surprise me, but still, it was brilliant.
Sometimes at these events it is difficult to tell because of the delay in the sound system/camera image. Difference of speed of sound and light? I don't know.

She's amazing.
Also, there are delays with the camera and sound at events like this, I doubt she was lip synching, but you never know.
There you go... Wow, that's unbelievable, sad that they feel performers have to use tracks nowadays.
I was writing when you posted Tag, so thanks for the info. Funny that I could tell from her last note - that is the only thing that looked weird. Her vibrato and shaping didn't match her mouth.

I stand corrected, either way, amazing!

I usually hate when people belt the National Anthem (you have an upper register for a reason!) but hers was amazing. I can't remember when I'd enjoyed a performance of the National Anthem so much.
Whitney used a track in '91 as well.
she sang the Anthem live, right? it only mentioned the duet being tracked
Springsteen didn't lip synch though, did he?

What duet? The performance was lip synced, but still fantastic.
Piano there was no duet, Faith Hill sang "america the beautiful" and Jennifer Hudson sang "star-spangled banner"... though I can see how you could read it as a duet in the article...
Double post...

ab, ok, gotcha! Thanks!
I guess that shows I watched NONE of the superbowl lol
Jp2, don't you mean Whitney used CRACK in '91?
I'm not sure when they started recording the National Anthem at the Superbowl, but the NA has been recorded for the Superbowl for a number of years. IIRC, it's done so there aren't any flubs during the performance.

Amazing performance. I am so proud of her. She knocked it out of the park, and yes... she still kept it as THE NATIONAL ANTHEM and did not put her own musical, look what I can do to show myself off twist to it that would make the song unrecognizable.
Whitney's version back in '91 will always be my favorite, but Jennifer certainy did that song justice. Can't wait for her appearance on the Grammy's next week.
It was beyond fierce. Her belt is incredible.
