I adore Jerry and was thrilled when he was named - but I was disappointed in the tribute. I don't think the show really came alive until the McCartney tribute (still on now). I wish I'd recorded this.

edit to add: I LOVE watching the whole audience - including the other award winners - singing along. EVERYBODY knows this man's music!

Yes! I enjoyed the Merle Haggard section, but this tribute to McCartney is wonderful!

The McCartney section was the best? REALLY? Between the random punk-like opening, the two singers who sounded disgusting together and the random screaming in the middle of a beautiful song I thought it was one of the worst. It got better when James Taylor got out, and the whole audience singing was beautiful, but it couldn't make up for the mediocrity that was the majority of the tribute.

The Herman tribute was put together by my least favorite "go to guy" but it did feature two of his cuties, Spencer and Charlie.

Benanti just needs softer or less make-up.
IF HE WALKED INTO MY LIFE, would have been very appropriate, maybe a duet for Angela and Edie.
Bomer was a bummer but O'Hara was luminous.

Is it bad that I hoped Matt Morrison would be performing as a Cagelle?

Sutton's performance itself was not awkward. And, with under a minute onstage in that rushed tribute, with a little march on and off while emoting a great vocal to get the song out for the general TV audience to relate to Herman, what do you want. She's not going to play Dolly for real anytime soon, though she did deliver the lyric with a sense of relating to it. One can be of any age and feel the need for renewal and to join in before the parade passes by. She will make her own vivacious mark with Reno at an age nearly ten years older than when Merman played the role. I do get tired of all the mainly negative comments I see about her on this sight and joined just to make this one post. Sutton will be up in that box herself in a few decades. Except, she won't look bored. (Though I didn't think Herman was bored) She'll be clapping for the performers and screaming "Yaaayyy!!!" as she did onstage tonight for Jerry when the whole line-up came out at the end.

Living on the otherside of the world all I've seen of the ceremony is what is on youtube. I thought the tribute excellent. Who did the choreography? I thought it was terrific.

Some of the dancing was lovely, but there was a bit too much stage action taking place. Felt excessive.

Saw me some cute chorus boys, though.

It is my understanding that what is televised is an edited version of what actually takes place. The pieces themselves may not have been as awkward as the editing made them feel.
