Well we're certainly off to a great start!
Too early to start celebrating?
A more competitive game would've been better entertainment and ultimately more satisfying, but I'll take it.
The Japanese coach read my post and is obliging accordingly. Arigato.
My daughter woke up at 2:15, which made me nutty until I realized I would get to see the last few moments of the game! WOOOOHOOOO!
""Islanderfan, first off I totally respect your name. Second, I did not know this, how many are on turf? This should not be played on turf. Total BS."
This is the first FIFA event where the entire tournament is being played on turf. There have been interviews with women on the US team who, of course, are pissed about this. And, may have said (and I agree) that this would never occur if this were the mens world cup. Despite the fact that, at least here in the US, women's sports is far from being as popular as its male counterpart, the games may be slightly modified (like the ball in the WNBA being a little smaller since women have smaller hands than mens) but all in all they are pretty equal between the two. The whole business of the entire world cup being played on turf is irksome. Specially since there was an interview/story about this on CBS awhile back where Team USA players all felt that this would never happen on the mens side.
Right now, I am happy that I now have a soccer team to call my own. Major league Soccer's New York City Football Club. And, for my forgin fix, I'll stick to the UEFA cup. "
You should look into NYCFCs owners more. Their moral standards are way worse then this.
Beyond thrilled for everyone on our team, but especially the veterans like Boxx, Rampone, and Wambach. A shame that they receive a fraction of what the men's teams won last year.

They don't bring anywhere near the amount of revenue that the men do. Plus this is only the 7th world Cup. The good news is that if the popularity of it keeps increasing they will eventually earn more money.
^Is that why they made them play on turf too? In spite of increased risk of injury and raising the temp of the field by 20 degrees?
Doesn't FIFA have a BILLION dollar reserve?

NYC has announced that they will be having a tickertape parade for the US Women's National team this Friday!
If'n I was in NY I'd go. Maybe they should shower money down on them instead.
Awesome, I'm going to try to go.
For anyone still wanting some more national team soccer the gold cup tournament starts tonight for the men with USA playing Honduras.
Anyone else going? It's 11AM in the Canyon of Heroines.
The parade was wonderful. Glad to see the women get all that support. They looked like they had such a good time
I was there, and it was wonderful Could have been better organized, but that didn't diminish the event at all. Don't know what the crowd numbers were, but the streets were packed.
