Great comet or Come from away?

Comics are often hit or miss. Not sure about the The Great Comic though.
If the comic is great, who cares where it came from?

Depends if you want a quiet musical with great character work/plotting or a full experience spectacle musical. Seriously, they're both incredible shows it just depends on what you're in the mood for.
Great Comet is an amazing spectacle. The direction, the staging, and the set up of the show is really incomparable to anything that's been on broadway. Denee as Natasha is a revelation.
Come From Away has been getting uniformly raves since it came out. It's got heavier subject matter but it ultimately a message of hope and coming together in tragic times. All the cast puts in great work, switching from character to character very quickly. It's a sparse set and relies almost entirely on it's story.
Truly, just pick whichever one sounds more like your thing. I adored Great Comet and I'd so love to see Come From Away

This is an incredibly difficult choice. I loved both shows in very very different ways. Great Comet is not for everyone. It's bizarre. I adored it. Come From Away really surpassed my expectations.
The one reason I would slightly tend toward Great Comet is it is quite amazing to see what they've done with the Imperial, and no other Broadway show has that kind of intimacy in such a large space. The sets really are phenomenal. Come From Away is great but I think it could be done very well on tour or in regional productions.
That said, if there's ANY way to see both, I would do it.

Saw Comet on Broadway and Come from Away in DC. Of the two, I definitely preferred Come from Away. But they are very different types of show. While Come from Away has an over-arching tragic story, you walk away feeling hopeful and appreciate the good in people. It's a simple set and much more intimate than Comet. For my family, Comet is a feast for the eyes and very immersive, not as moving a production as Come from Away.
Two very different shows. Maybe you can see both & grab a SRO ticket for COME FROM AWAY?
You can't lose, both shows are wonderful. Having seen both ("Come From Away" in DC), I have to say that "Come From Away" gets my vote, but only by a hair. Like I said before, either way you choose you will see a great show.
Both great options, but I'd easily say Great Comet.
You won't see anything like Great Comet on Broadway for a long time- it's thrilling. And personally, I find it very moving.

I enjoyed Great Comet and it was an amazing spectacle. But it is a fairly superficial show. Come From Away isn't as visually spectacular but for me, it was much more moving and meaningful.

I agree, Come From Away! Saw both pre-broadway, Comet in Cambridge and CFA in DC. Comet is very different. CFA really stuck with me. Such an uplifting story from such a horrific time!
I have to say, I was honestly far more moved during the final 25 minutes of Great Comet than I was during Come from Away. If you're looking to be moved, don't shy away from Great Comet—it packs a wallop.

I am struggling with this same choice. I am coming to NYC with my daughter to celebrate her college graduation. The trip is a surprise, but she has dropped hints about seeing DEH and Anastasia if we go. I have tickets to those shows and need one more show to complete our trip. We saw Hamilton and School of Rock last spring. Her favorite show is Les Miz (or Hamilton). We actually know a couple who's plane was re-directed to the Canadian island in CFA, which peaked my interest in the show. But I want to pick a show my daughter will enjoy. Any additional thoughts?
Hi Anng3! If your daughter's favorite shows are Les Miz and Hamilton, then I promise you that she will adore Great Comet. I highly recommend it and think it would complement the other shows on your trip beautifully.

Thanks! That is my gut feeling as well.

I love Les MIs and Hamilton and hated the Great Comet. Though, I see why people would make the connection as they are all mostly sung through musicals. I'd recommend Come From Away

I haven't seen CFA yet but went to Great Comet for the 2nd time last night and enjoyed it even more than the first time. It is really a special night of theater and unlike anything you will see and the cast is uniformly excellent. But if you don't like stuff that is a little weird and want the safe option go with CFA.

What did you hate about the Great Comet? I don't know why she wants to see Anastasia, but she wants to see DEH because she fell in love with the music. I hadn't been paying close attention to Broadway because I didn't expect to be going this year.

Personally, I felt it was way too slow. The opening number was great but from there, in my opinion, it all went downhill. I thought it was incredibly boring until the last 25 minutes or so. My friend and I both contemplated leaving at intermission. The staging is fantastic, though, so if you want a unique theatre experience, that would be a good option.
Maybe have her listen to Come From Away and The Great Comet? Come From Away was just put on NPR radio here: http://www.npr.org/2017/03/02/517968134/first-listen-come-from-away-original-broadway-cast-recording

Girls who are graduating college this year grew up on the Anastasia cartoon movie. My daughter and her friends who are all college seniors made a special trip to Hartford just to see it. Anastasia is one of the princess stories which that specific age group LOVES.

I haven't seen CFA yet, but I thought Great Comet was awesome. I definitely recommend it!
