Screw the "homophobes heart lesbians" speech. I'm waiting for him to tell us the world is flat (much like his arguements).

JerseyGirl2,
But is Angel out of drag when and if he kisses Collins?? I suspect not. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a stipulation of Sony's that the men mustn't be shown kissing each other if Angel wasn't in drag. As for the female homosexual couple, they are never in drag in the stage production so your point is really quite irrelevant.
art, aren't you ever a little embarrassed when it's so obvious that you're not very familiar with RENT even though you seem to try to act like you are?
No, my point is that YOU claimed that they are making a homophobic production which they clearly aren't. Why don't you save your bitching until you SEE the film. This entire thread is quite irrelevant.
'nuff said.

Hey art2,
I know you're just a bit insane (from your previous posts), but I was wondering how you came up with the conclusion that a man dressed in drag kissing another man or two women getting married would be less offensive too conservative, homophobic, or whatever else people than a man kissing a man. I just don't understand your point. Aren't all those things equally bad in their book, and wouldn't someone who is homophobic never put any of these things in a movie unless they are critisizing it?
I was thinking that exactly Yessica.

Well I hope I'll get a response, I'd like to understand where he's coming from, and if he has considered these things.
Good luck.
trust me, you'll need it.

For me Pinguin? Thanks.
Let's see if it helps.
HAHA...we can only hope...
I do love the creativity of the subject line, though...anti-gay shredder...I'm glad someone else picked up on how funny that was...good job EverythingisRENT :0)

*threadjack while I'm waiting for art* Pinguin what made you choose your name (with that spelling)? Just wondering, cause I'm German and that's how we'd spell it.

Yessica,
You fail to understand the dynamics of modern-day liberalism and movie studio politics. To the executives, male-male affection is more offensive than female-female affection or male-female affection. To the executives, the shock impact of male-male affection can be ameliorated by ensuring that one of the parties is dressed as a woman.
I dont get this? Art2 what exactly would you have liked for Sony/Columbs to have done with the material? It sounds like you wouldn't have been happy unless they showed male on male penetration.
So, were you wanting them to throw out the fact that Angel is, in fact, a drag queen? I am really confused.

- Did the "executives" tell you that? Apart from your argument being absolutely ridiculous in itself, I was wondering if you had considered that the play was written with Angel as a dragqueen? Do you suggest Colombus should have changed that element of the show to make it less of offensive to you?
(see why ya need the luck, Yessica?)

Seriously, check out that old thread. It's HILARIOUS.
Is this when the term libido liberals gets thrown around again.
Ahhh Pinguin, ah yes, I remember it well.
That is when I was first introduced to you and Patronus.
Art2 has at least done something worthwhile via this thread.
I also think my avatar was an homage to to the Penguin kissing scene Art2 encouraged.
This is getting old and ridiculous.
If you want to get off on guys kissing, go get some porn!
Oh, I highly agree about the last thread. What was that term he called everyone? Horny liberals?
As much as I find art annoying and I don't agree with him, I find that to be kind of a oversimplification of the argument ljay.
If you're gay, I'd say it's a pretty natural thing to want to see gay relationships reflected in art and feel like you're really a part of society.
LIBIDO LIBERALS
Repeat after me . . .
We are all libido liberals.
As per one of Art2's old messages from September:
"Patronus,
I would like to claim credit for coining the expression "libido liberal". I use it to deride phony liberals whose liberalism extends only to those things that tweak the libido. In relation to the same-sex issue, there are tons and tons of libido liberals who profess support for gay rights but then recoil from the notion of male-male affection. These people need to be exposed wherever they may be.
As for the RENT movie, I'm still pretty downbeat about the prospect for an honest and romantic portrayal of the male-male relationship. Columbus appears to have invested most of his energies into playing up the male-female and female-female aspects. If that's the case, shame on him."

(oh YWIW...I even still keep you in my sig file, hehe)
Where's Patronus when you need him?
