How do you know flashback Lucy doesn't sing?
Sondheim wrote a new song for Flashback Lucy, guys. His obvious Oscar bid, if you ask me.

MB: Can you at least tell us if this mysterious Beggar Woman has a nice soprano voice?

- Are you being serious? Or joking around?
Spork, if the Beggar Woman is the actress Timote and I believe it is. Her voice is far from soprano, and far from enjoyable. FANTASTIC actress though.

No, she doesn't have a nice soprano voice. But the Beggar Woman isn't supposed to have a nice soprano voice...

Edit: Yeah, I can't detect jokes on the internet.
MB: Well, I think of the Beggar Woman more as a soprano... but overall, I guess, do you think her voice would be good for the Beggar Woman?
I was being a smart ass, but did I tell the truth on accident?
*Rushes to find Magic8Ball.*
The actress I was thinking of is currently on a national tour but I don't remember her being on a film last year so I'm probably wrong. Ljay, can you PM me with your speculation? I'm quite curious to know.
I don't know why I thought Anne Hathaway would probably be cast as Johanna, she is probably too old for the role and it might be a bad career move to take on a featured role like Johanna. I just had some hopes of listening to her singing "Kiss Me" (if it's ever included in the final cut of the film). Good for Jayne Wisener though.
Doesn't filming start in February? The only three leading roles they have yet to announce are Anthony, Toby, and The Beggar Woman, right?

This IS fun. Can we just guess now? Just tell us if we don't have the correct person...
My guess: Natasha Richardson
Houguy, that makes three of us now.
MB can't hide it from us anymore... we deserve a yes or no.
andallthatjazz - They haven't announced the Beadle, unless I missed it.

I really think Richardson would be good.

I could see that too, but does her grating soprano has power? I'm too accustomed to the revival, where the beggar woman seems to have INCREDIBLE pipes..
There have been several strong-voiced Beggar Women in the past. Victoria Clark, anyone? Audra McDonald?
As for this neurotic tony-winner, I have no clue.

I go to school with Jayne at RSAMD, and she's so perfect for the role. She's so sweet, and will be wonderful. She has a beautiful voice and is a brillent actress, don't have any doubts, she'll be amazing.
could this be our better woman?
Is anyone else think waiting another year for this movie is unbearable

jonart- She hasn't been on Broadway other than The Big Love
jonart, Ullmann was first introduced to audiences in the States as a singer, with her pop hit They Don't Know. She then went on to star in her own musical variety show based out of LA, where she sang every week.
So...no.
okay so i'm an idiot... but hell it was late (almost 4 am) and that seemed smart at the time
Actually whoever said British press is correct. It was the Belfast Telegraph which is still subject to UK law thank you very much :-P

Jayne Wisener has definately been cast. She is a wonderfully talented singer and actress, just right for the part. I wish her all the best!
Oh and we're not all drunks in Ireland (although I can understand why people might think that!)

Wasn't that guy from Buffy The Vampire Slayer offered a role in Sweeney? I forget what his name is, but he was the librarian on Buffy.
I honestly think in a few days/weeks even, they will announce all of the remaining members of the cast for Sweeney(kinda like how in probably the same amount of time, the cast, including the role of Harvey Dent, will be announced for The Dark Knight)

R&Hgal: Any idea what her range is? Does she have a nice vibrato? What type of soprano voice does she seem to have (lyric, coloratura, soubrette, etc)?
You have to understand that I'm paranoid because we were told the same things about Emmy Rossum as Christine when we heard the casting news.
