"Men like me can never change, Men like you can never change. No, 24601. My duty's to the law - you have no Rights. Come with me 24601. Now the wheel has turned around, Jean Valjean is nothing now. Dare you talk to me of crime, And the price you had to pay. Every man is born in sin. Every man must choose his way. You know nothing of Javert. I was born inside a jail, I was born with s like you, I am from the gutter too!" ~Javert

Singin in the Rain - an excellent Original movie musical.

A close second would be both Oliver and The Sound of Music - both of them are better than the stage shows they are based on.

As for anyone who said The Producers - see more movie musicals - it SUCKED.

Hair
West Side Story
My Fair Lady
Oliver!
The King and I
Hello, Dolly!
Chicago
A Hard Days Night
South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut
Gypsy (not the TV version)

In the so bad it's good Department:

"Can't Stop The Music"

And, a truly awful movie musical:

"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" starring George Burns and the Bee Gees!

"I've lost everything! Luis, Marty, my baby with Chris, Chris himself, James. All I ever wanted was love." --Sheridan Crane "Passions" ------- "Housework is like bad sex. Every time I do it, I swear I'll never do it again til the next time company comes."--"Lulu" from "Can't Stop The Music" ----- "When the right doors didn't open for him, he went through the wrong ones" - "Sweet Bird of Youth" ------------ --------- "Passions" is uncancelled! As for anyone who said Little Shop...

Please go see a good stage production. That movie is too realistic. It missed out on the stage version crazy making-fun-of-60's-B-movies .. ness...

I have seen a few productions of Little Shop, and I found that I appreciated the stage version more than the flick. On that note, the film is still enjoyable to me; but eh, thats just my two cents for ya~ Happy Holidays too!

John Travolta was brilliant in Grease. I still think of him in that film and can not imagine him as Edna Turnblad. He was so brilliant as a hot, sexy teen. I can't imagine him as Edna.
I liked the Chicago movie but thought the male roles were horrid.
If only they used a good singer like Brent Barrett for the Lawyer role or Brian Stokes Mitchell or Marc Kudisch.
