I don't see anyone saying they're afraid to walk there now.
But it's scary if you're there often, because if you happened to be there while this happened, you could have been hurt. That's why it is scary.

legally_popular - If they are not physically in your face but calling after you, just continue to walk. Calling after you is nothing. If they physically touch you, I'd call the cops right there. But if all they're doing is calling after you, that is really nothing.
What if you're waiting outside of a theater for a rush and lotto, and they approach you? That's what they did to my friend. Do you still walk away? Updated On: 12/11/09 at 01:39 PM
You ignore them. Or if you must, tell them you are not interested. And if it continues and they will not leave you alone, you call 911 with your cell phone which you know you have with you.
Wow, as a mother I do feel sad for the mother in that video, but does she not understand that her son had a loaded gun with 27 rounds and he could have killed many people...and most likely would not have been aiming for their legs...?
I love the mother "Why didn't they just shoot my son (who was firing a MACHINE GUN) in the leg?
Because, you stupid twit... you shoot at a cop and you die. It's about as simple as that and she knows it.
Good for the cops. And good for business.
One simple bullet, fired in Westwood, Los Angeles in 1987 by a young man, struck a young girl and killed her and literally devastated and ruined the most successful entertainment area in North America (so successful that all traffic was blocked off on Friday and Saturday nights as huge crowds teemed to the theaters and restaurants. Westwood died that night as well NEVER recovered from that shooting and half the stores are empty now.
Although as an outsider, I don't consider a single shooting in New York to be an oddity (it isn't, is it?) but maybe that's because I watch too many cop shows.

It certainly is in that area. The murder rate in NY is quite low right now, lower than L.A., as a matter of fact. I would say the shooting is an oddity given where it occurred, the time of day it occurred, and the fact that no one but the shooter was hurt, which I attribute to the cops.
Oh man, I remember these cd guys from when I was in the city a few weeks ago! I ignored them but one of them kept following me down the street asking where I was from and what my name was.... the dude only stopped when I took out my cell phone to take a call from my mom. It didn't really freak me out then, but now it sure does!
