A few friends and i were talking about this at school the other day. When i think of my favorite theatre characters, I realize that they are all female parts and it sucks knowing I'll never play either one. Unless I become a big drag queen. But i digress. I would absolutely love to play Evita, which, to me, is probably the flashiest, fiercest diva part in theatre (other than Rose, of course). Her speech on the Casa Rosada after Argentina is one of my favorite moments from any show. Anita in WSS is a close second: America is my favorite piece of choreography from any show, why I don't know. I really wish there was some sort of video of Chita performing it back when she was in the show. I would KILL to see it.
So which opposite-gender roles would you love to play? You know you've thought about it. Let's be honest.
Rose in Gypsy of course! I don't think there's a better role ever written for a musical. Period. If I ever got a chance to sing that score in front of a live audience, I could die a happy guy.
I always liked Mame Dennis, too, though. Reno Sweney, Mrs. Lovett, The Witch in Into the Woods...all great roles I'd love to play.
John Adams in 1776 Noah in Two by Two (when is THAT going to come back???)
I'm sure there are others.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Queenie is one that comes to mind, as well as Mother in Ragtime.
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
Evita in Evita Rose in Gypsy Sally in Cabaret Drood in Drood Phyllis in Follies Maria in West Side Story Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd Mother in Ragtime Cassie or Sheila in A Chorus Line Clara in Light in the Piazza Effie in Dreamgirls (although I'd need to change my race, too)

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
