Hi,
Was there ever a recording for the TV version with Brandy and Whitney Huston? I thought there was and I can't seem to find it.
Thanks,
JO

No, there was never a soundtrack album of this version.

I don't think a soundtrack was ever released to the public. Apparently there some unreleased tracks of it on Limewire like the one which was used as background music for this Youtube video of the anime, 'Sailor Moon'.

Thank you! I heard one was made, just never knew if it got released or not!

I think that since this version never had a soundtrack released to the public, which included the song "There is Music in You", that might've been why the 2008 Asian Tour with Lea Salonga got a worldwide release. The CD includes "There is Music in You", which was part of the tour.

Unfortunately, it was never released at the time due to disputes between Whitney and Brandy's record labels. There have been studio tracks that have leaked on-line of some of the individual songs, but never a complete soundtrack.
Personally, I don't understand why Disney never made more of an effort. It could potentially sell pretty well since the demand has seemed to increase over the years instead of decrease. It would make more money for them on itunes than it does sitting on a shelf somewhere.
There was no loss that it wasn't released. Brandy (what a pretentious name) couldn't sing it (she couldn't act it either, but that wouldn't have mattered on an album).

I actually think Brandy did a great job singing the songs her way. She was young and her voice was low for some songs, but she sang them beautifully. She could sing it note for note these days. She's grown into a wonderful vocalist.
I want them to release it! So many good songs and Whitney Houston sounded amazing on There Is Music In You. Loved her and Brandy on Impossible and the Reprise.

^I agree that Brandy was the weakest link, vocally, but the rest of the cast was great. It would be nice to have quality versions of Whitney singing "There's Music in You" and Bernadette Peters' "Falling in Love With Love." "The Sweetest Sounds," "The Prince is Giving a Ball" and "Impossible" were also highlights -- as well as the beautifully orchestrated instrumental tracks.

I think she was dreadful and has not grown into anything.
Difference of opinion.

Whitney, who was also a producer of the film, was the one who wanted Brandy to play the role. She thought that Brandy had the youthful energy for the part. In a behind the scenes special it was revealed that Brandy agreed to do the role if Whitney played her Fairy Godmother.

I most certainly agree that Brandy is the weak link in such a great cast, but out of all the three versions of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, this one bored me. I don't know what it is, but maybe it feels overproduced in moments that it loses the simple magic that the Julie Andrews and Leslie Ann Warren versions were well known for.
In fact, one song wasn't written by Hammerstein at all! What the what?!
But hey, a lot of you saw it and loved it so I won't be a negative guy and ruin any of your nostalgic memories of this version.
^Part of it is definitely nostalgia. This is the version I grew up with. I didn't see the Julie Andrews or Leslie Ann Warren versions until much later.
Did Brandy have to dive on Whitney to get the role?

So, I have a weird question! Why does Douglas Carter Beane and a lot of other folks say that "The Music in You" is new and that they went back to R&H trunk of songs and found it. But, it was used in this TV version. I find it hard to believe it was just pulled out of the trunk for the firs time (obviously not).

^ "There is Music in You" was originally sung in the 1953 film 'Main Street to Broadway'.

"Brandy (what a pretentious name"
Umm, wtf? How's it a pretentious name when it was her parents who gave it to her?
Anyway, there wasn't a real soundtrack made, but various people have made a soundtrack out of the songs from the movie. How they got them, I don't know. The songs are all online.
Honestly, the 1965 version was the worse one. I know it was made in 1965, but come on! Even the 1957 version had more believeable magic. Plus, I hated how weak Warren's Cinderella was. She would cry over the littlest things. Still, it is charming, and there are some songs and scenes I prefer in the 1965 version than in the other ones. Not saying it's a bad film, but out of the three, I would say it was the weakest one.
There is a YouTube recording of Whitney singing There is Music In You. I am a huge Whitney fan but the Victoria Clark version just released this week on iTunes with the new Cinderella OCR is, in my opinion, far superior. It might well be the quality of the recording, granted. But the Clark version is magnificent.

I would assume a lot of those versions floating around online are rips directly from the DVD.
