Hello all, I am new here. I have a question - who has seen the show from the first couple rows? I would love to see Idina up close! I saw the show and LOVED it, and want to see it again. Thinking of getting premium seats. Also, I saw it originally the day before Mother's Day, I read she got sick shortly after and her understudy went on - I would be so disappointed - I am local but feel bad for those folks that travel a distant to see Idina. Thanks for your thoughts.
I sat front row over the fourth of July weekend. It was pretty cool to have Idina belting two feet in front of me!! I normally like mid orchestra, but went for the discounted front row seats. Truthfully, I would not pay premium for them. Being so close, the full effect of the show is lost. The stage is also pretty high, so things happening at the back of the stage can't be seen. A friend of mine sat in row F and truly enjoyed the experience. Close enough to get a good view of the actors, but not on top of the set.
Playbill.com has some good offers. Once you become a free member you have access to quite a few discounts. On Fourth of July weekend, If/Then tickets were about 40% off. You won't be able to get front and center orchestra , but I was on the right in the First two seats next to the isle and very close to Ms. Menzel! Premium seating, unfortunately, does not get discounted. I've been following the development of the show for awhile and enjoyed the performance. I'm a huge Idina fan and seeing her live was amazing!
Lottery seats will get you in the front of the theater. I sat in the second row and the view was fine, didn't lost sight of the action, and for a second viewing it's wonderful to be THAT close where you can really see how Idina uses her vocal instrument. I know you can't count on winning lottery, but I also got third row from playbill.com. Check for seats on the sides as they are substantially cheaper than center.
I am sorry if this has been answered (I tried to search for it!). For today's lottery - the show starts at 3pm. I know they draw 90 minutes prior (1:30pm). Can you enter right up until 1;30pm? I am going to try for Hedwig first and am going to hit If/Then if not successful. Thanks!
The stage itself is pretty magical, so seeing it from mid-orchestra will give you the full view. Sitting up close and to the extreme sides will keep you from getting the full effect. But if you are going as an Idina fan, seats up front are incredible. Watching her use her whole body, face and mouth to make that beautiful noise is like a lesson in singing perfection. As in any show, you will miss something by sitting up close or to the side, but you also get something else...in this case, something damn special. For If/Then, the show comes across very different depending on which side you sit on. It seems that the girls are emphasized on the left side of the stage and the boys on the right. When I sat in row A seat 1, which is second row on the aisle, I was right in there for a lot of the female action, and felt a lot closer to those storylines. I saw a lot more of the girls' faces, was right there for their action. When I sat in row D, seat 12, I felt closer to the male storylines. Call me crazy but I think the staging really impacts this show. I am glad my first viewing was from row M seat 2 because I was able to see the whole stage and take in the story as a whole. My next seat will probably be front mezz.
I sag upstairs 3rd row mezz and the view was fantastic. Could see the lights in the floor. Was reall nice for the New York song and Always Starting Over with them also reflected in the big mirror.
Great information... you sound like you are a huge fan too. I saw her Radio City show - omigosh...it was fabulous. I really want to experience her up close - so I am just going to purchase the tickets in the front rows. My first show was front mezzanine and it was great and took in all the action, so if some is lost by being so close, oh well, like you said, the trade off is pretty special! I am going to try for Aug 3rd..not sure what Playbill has to offer, but will check it out. Thanks again.. this is a great site...all responses were so helpful!!
