I've seen Mainstage productions at City Center before- and loved them all- but I have yet to see something at Stages 1 and 2. What is the venue like? Share your experiences there?
Also, has anyone heard any buzz or seen Ring Twice for Miranda? The promo blurb sounded enticing.
I haven't seen that show, but when I hear the title I always think that Lin-Manuel is at the door!
Those theaters are both very nice. One is larger than the other and is set up as a traditional proscenium stage. There is a good rake, and you can see fine from anywhere. The smaller one is I guess you'd call it a black box, and I believe the audience sits on three sides, or maybe sometimes two sides. I think Heisenberg was in this theater.
Stage 1 is a pretty traditional proscenium space of around 299 seats. Stage 2 is a malleable black-box space that is usually set up in a thrust arrangement.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
I have to agree with Kad. My friend and I both disliked it. Unlike Kad, though, we decided to stay for act two, hoping it would get better. Alas, no. It's a dystopian drama, but the play really doesn't have A point. The acting was all over the place. There's not much to recommend this one except for the sets, which were great.
