Oscarwatch recently compiled a list of the allegedly best 100 film performances....though I'm sure Margo will be pleased with the #1 choice....
I find it VERY hard to believe that Vivien didn't make the list!
Top 100
Wow. I'm proud to see John Cameron Mitchell is on the list.
I've only seen the bottom two, but Gregory Peck better be there for To Kill a Mockingbird.
eta: Gregory Peck is number 74.

lildog, what's number 1?
HAHA. I can't remember. I know it's Bette Davis, but I can't remember the movie.
Help me out.
I have to say that I'm always a little skeptical of these things because they tend to skew towards more recent performances (really? Heath Ledger at number 50?).
Still, I was quite happy to see that one of my favorite film performances of the last 10 years, Julianne Moore (Far From Heaven) was recognized in the top 10.
These lists have no more validity, than if we did our own list, right here. And, how seriously can you take any list that includes Faye Dunaway's horrendous turn as Joan Crawford?
any poll that rates Montgomery Clift #96 for his performance in Judgement in Nuremburg is not worth crap....he was magnificent!
That is a bummer Elphaba. 96 th? Can they spare it .

Julianne deserved the Oscar for Far from Heaven!
All of them are outstanding performances, but the whole list seems to be out of order (Gregory Peck at 71?!?!).
I wonder why Faye Dunaway was put up there for Mommie Dearest, instead of Chinatown or Network.
Julianne deserved the Oscar for Far from Heaven!
Yes, she did. :)
I think it was OW Forum's 100 FAVORITE performances, not BEST performances, and that should answer all your questions.
But... Judy is at 79. And Peck is at 74. And these are not single-digit numbers. That confuses me.
ETA that I couldn't agree more with #1, and that the top ten (for the most part) is pretty good!

I love how they don't tell you who the number one choice is, or what movie it's for. All they have is a portrait!
I was very surprised at how some performances were WAY up there which I personally didn't think were as noteworthy
bwaylvsong, I think it's supposed to be self-explanatory. I assumed it was Bette Davis in ALL ABOUT EVE.
Again, that list was not about BEST performances, but rather FAVORITE performances.
I love that Uma Thurman is on there for Kill Bill.

Haha and Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean.
Although, he was nominated for an Oscar for it.
TheQuibbler, you changed your avatar. I was really fond of the one with the sword and helmet.
Judy at 79 for A STAR IS BORN!? WTF?
This list sucks.
Kevin Kline in A Fish Called Wanda should definitely be on that list.

Great list and I'm happily surprised at some of the selections which are also favorites of mine -- especially #1
