It's October. Surprise! Not good. Wish I could agree with you, PJ, that this is a nothingburger, but, unfortunately I think this could be a real game changer. Hope I'm wrong and you're right!

This smells spectacularly fishy, given the timing of this announcement.

As Kad said, it's not a "reopening."

And NBC’s Pete Williams just reported that senior FBI officials say this is not a matter of withholding evidence. During a separate investigation, “a device led to additional emails–and they were not from Hillary.

The media is already dialing back the "reopening" phrase.

Kurt Eichenwald of Vanity Fair just reported that it's 3 emails that "might" be relevant to the case, and none of them were withheld by Clinton.

He says, "The difference between 'reopening an investigation' and the FBI reporting these emails to Congress is the difference between ordering a second dinner and discovering two uneaten pieces of steak under potatoes."

I so enjoy watching Pal Joey do his usual Tobacco lawyer imitation downplaying every/anything critical of Hilary.

That said, I do not think the email thing is going to change anyones mind in going for Oompa Loompa man.

Perhaps, but appearances matter, as does spin.  Like the misleading AP report overstating relationships between the Clinton Foundation and the State Dept, this will get more ink than it deserves.  And that matters.

CNN is now reporting that the new emails and investigation is connected to the Anthony Weiner texting scandal. UNREAL!

Actually unreal. There is no way Comey would want to reopen this unless there was something truly pertinent here. This is not good for Hillary.

This is shaping up to be a lot of nothing. Reports are indicating that Comey had to keep the congressional committees updated in compliance with his testimony under oath; he did so in a vague way that was able to be spun by Rep. Chaffetz- who had previously sworn to doggedly investigate Clinton even if she is elected. Chaffetz is the one who first used the false claim of "case reopened," which was then picked up by his fellow GOPers and some press, and spun further by Priebus and the RNC.

Additionally, it seems the emails are not from Hillary at all, but rather from Anthony Weiner's or Huma Abedin's devices.

Meanwhile, the initial breaking headline caused markets to tank- they've righted themselves as additional information became available.

Nothing is being reopened. This wasn't a "case closed" deal to begin with, the way a court case is once the verdict is given.

Hi Kad, I'm with you on this b/c it's the TRUTH! This is BS! Nothing's here or there. I'm still trying to not get really PO'd about all this. (I'm still on my high from seeing Sunday and Comet on Wednesday)

This is media BS and that's just the problem...now the Reps and KAC etc, can have a field day.

The case was not "reopened." Only the can of worms was.

The emails are from Anthony Weiner, not Clinton. This is nothing story. The investigation is not being re-opened because it was never closed. Most likely just hot air that the media is turning into a story to push the close race narrative.

Let's hope there's some as-yet undisclosed opposition research against Trump to overshadow this.

It is completely irresponsible for James Comey to drop something so vague on a Friday afternoon 11 days before election day. There is no way this "investigation" will be complete in 11 days. Which means this will be all press talks about unless another Access Hollywood bus rollls into this sideshow of an election.

And is there any confirmation that none of these emails were from Clinton? I agree this is most likely nothing. And even if there are Clinton emails I doubt they would be any different than any of the thousands of emails they have already gone through. But I do not think it is out of the realm of possibility that Anthony Weider had some forwarded Clinton emails in his inbox, I actuallly hope there's one of her reading him for the way he's treated Huma.

Comey is basically saying we don't really know anything, and we probably won't before election day. He should come out ASAP and say "nothing to see here." unless he has evidence otherwise.

Or unless the media starts (start?) talking about his upcoming child rape case.

Apparently Comey was under obligation to report the emails to Congress. But shame on him for the manner in which he did it, which he is intelligent enough to know would be easily misconstrued as wrongdoing on Clinton's part. Which it is not.

Shame on The Washington Post, Politico, NBC News, PBS, Vox and The Huffington Post for reporting rumor as fact and saying the investigation was "reopened" when it was NOT reopened.

Shame on Representative Jason Chaffetz for starting the rumor.

Shame on the entire American media for being more interested in melodrama than facts.

Or course she's not going to lose, but having this bull**** dominating the news cycle 10 days before the election is problematic, to say the least.  Unfortunately, perception is reality in public life.  Wouldn't be surprised if this race tightens significantly over the next week.  Let's hope we get one more October (early November?) surprise for racist cheeto.

I don't think she's going to lose either. Early voted a week ago, by the way, Democrats across the board.

But gosh, I will be so relieved when this season of The Election is finally over!

This is an email from Podesta and Clinton. It explains everything. It exposes Comey's practically illicit and possibly illegal actions; flagrantly ignoring FBI and DOJ "rules of law and disclosure". People need to stop assuming and inform themselves or we are doomed. The Democrats need to pull out all the stops to correct this. Trump's accusers, Trump's trial date for under age date rape, Trump's finances, Trump's pay for play, Trump's lies...

Steven --

By now, you've probably heard some news about a bewildering letter sent to Congressional leaders by the Director of the FBI.

This is all a bit confusing, and much of the reporting has been misleading or downright inaccurate, so I want to take a minute to walk through this. Bear with me!

Here's the quick backstory: In July, FBI Director James Comey concluded a year-long investigation by deciding not to go forward with any case about Hillary's emails. It wasn't even a close call, he said. In his words, "no reasonable prosecutor" would have brought charges.

Yesterday, in a surprise to us all, Comey wrote a very strange letter to Congress that was long on innuendo and short on facts. He said that in a completely separate investigation, the FBI had found some emails that may or may not be related to Hillary, and indeed may or may not be significant at all.

It's since been reported that these emails may not have even been sent by or to Hillary; that they weren't withheld by Hillary or the campaign in the earlier investigation; and most or even all of them may be duplicates of emails already in the FBI's possession.

It's being reported that Comey sent this letter over the objections of Department of Justice officials who told him that it was inconsistent with longstanding policy of both Democratic and Republican administrations not to take action that might impact an election. It's an unprecedented intrusion into a close presidential election with 10 days until Election Day.

But by being vague and obfuscating, Comey opened the door to conspiracy theories, Republican attacks against Hillary, and a surge of fundraising for Trump and his team. So this bears repeating: There is no evidence of wrongdoing, no charge of wrongdoing, and no indication that any of this even involves Hillary.

Voters deserve answers.

Comey needs to come clean with the American people about what he found and answer all the questions about why he took this unprecedented step less than two weeks before the election.

Here's what this changes for you and this campaign: Absolutely nothing.

Trump has spent more than a year trying to bully his way to the presidency. He's been browbeating the FBI (indeed, many have speculated that Comey took this extraordinary action in part to reduce the pressure on his agency that Trump's campaign and his Republican Congressional allies has been building up), leading crowds in chants of "lock her up," and even saying Hillary should be in prison -- and if he won, he'd put her there.

The facts be damned -- Trump's always shown a complete disregard for the truth. In spite of there being no new information, he's already raising money off the bizarre letter (he literally sent a text message asking for money within an hour of the story breaking!) and he's more fired up than ever on the trail today.

Steven, these are the actions of a desperate man. Trump knows he can't win on his character, temperament, or his policies. He's behind, so he'll cling to whatever he can.

So, no, our strategy doesn't change. But Steven, our intensity needs to, because we can't let him get away with this.

Our organizers and volunteers on the ground are rallying behind Hillary in what will be the biggest volunteer weekend of the campaign so far. You need to get her back, too. You need to say you're not willing to let Trump bully or buy his way into the presidency, and you're not going to let anything stop us from making history.

There are ten days to go. Let's buckle down, stay focused, and win this.

Apparently they do not even have a search warrant yet for the contents of the computer.  I kind of understand Comey's perceived obligation to update Congress, but what I do not understand is the manner in which he provided the update.  He created the very problem he was purportedly trying to avoid.
